And hop on a boat…
Because I am going to play by myself in MK for the first time in 6 years. Wooo!
The boat ride was really fun – the sky was gorgeous as the sun set, it was dark by the time I got to MK. I also wrote down, “Funny southern group who wanted Casey’s hot dogs.” So I guess they were on the ferry too.
After disembarking, I briefly considered jumping on the monorail and going to GF for more Basin. But I didn’t. Instead I beelined for my Very Favorite Ride, the TTA! And by “beelined” I mean “wandered aimless through the Main St shops,” where I took pictures like this
TTA was fun! It was dark out. That means wonky Tomorrowland pictures!
I got a front car too, which for some reason always makes me ridiculously happy. Afterwards I sat down on a bench where I called my mom and we had a nice talk that didn’t involve hurricanes or ruined vacations. Then I thought…I am in Tomorrowland…surely this is where they are hiding all of the fabulous Wall-E merchandise that I am so eager to drop obscene amounts of cash on!
Merchant of Venus let me down, so I stormed out of Tomorrowland and onto the carousel.
Next I hit up Winnie the Pooh, and then checked out Peter Pan. It had a 30minute wait so I was going to skip it – then I reminded myself that it ALWAYS has a long wait, which is why I haven’t been on it in years, and I really had NOTHING else to be doing right now. So I stood in line with a bunch of obnoxious teenagers, but it was totally fun and worth it.
Peter Pan is one of the rides I really remember from my first trip to WDW, 20 years ago. I was always concerned about the color ship we would get, and I dreaded the yellow ships. I thought they were absolutely hideous. I remember feeling so anxious about possibly getting a yellow ship. Luckily this time, I got a blue. But I got a picture of a yellow one for posterity.
As I rode I remembered how high it felt when I first rode it in 1988, and how scared I was then by the skull rock. I got off the ride at 9:20, and Spectromagic was blocking my way, so I took some pictures of it. This is when I discovered that by zooming in or out while taking the picture, I could get a bunch of weird looking photos.
Secret boyfriend Chip is in there….somewhere….
I threw a poncho on over my precious camera and boarded Splash Mountain next. There was a sweet family with 2 boys sharing my log, and I sat in the back so there was an empty row between us. This allowed me to sing along under my breath without irritating anyone. It was so great to ride this at night, and the parade was still going on so we had a cool view of it during the drop. The family stayed on the log for a second ride, but I had some Wishes to catch and I wanted to get up by the front of the park so I could get out quickly once the show ended. I speedwalked down Main St and got a lousy spot behind good ol’ Mayor Pumpkinhead.
Yay, I can sort of see the castle! The park was busy – this was what was going on behind me
The show started and I knew this would not do. I headed toward the exit and found a great spot for picture-taking.
Yaaay I am happy.
I raced back onto the ferry the second the show ended, which was unnecessary as we then sat there for ten more minutes. I spent my time admiring the 8billion bugs that came over to hang out with me.
Our trip back to WL was delayed when partway across the water we had to stop for the EWP floats to go by. They weren’t on yet but it was pretty cool to see them up close. I was also enjoying the music they were playing on the ferry, this ridiculous compilation called DISNEY MANIA! of poppy covers of Disney classics. On our ride we got to hear a reggae-ish cover of “Hakuna Matata”, with altered lyrics (“When I was a young warthog” became “When I was a cool young thing”….hmmm.)
I got back to my room around 11 and watched Will & Grace. Then I turned on Hannah Montana, which I usually can’t stand, but this was probably the greatest episode ever. Hannah gets in a fight with a sweet puppet named Pancake Buffalo. It was hilarious. Or maybe I was going crazy from exhaustion.
Coming up: Yay Beach Club!
