What Not To Buy...

I second (what number are we up to now, anyway?) the notion about no more stuffed animals. Though the good news is I'm slowly growing out of them - however, I still adore my Simba that my parents bought me on one of our very first trips to WDW. Sigh. And for an added sense of nostalgia, we're staying at the same hotel. I'm so very excited.

Also, about pins - my last trip, my Dad was a complete sweetheart and helped me attain several Mary Poppins pins off Ebay. Needless to say, once I was getting off Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, one of the backs slipped off and I was terrified that I would lose one of them. The really sad part is I can't find the lanyard or pins at all now, so I can't show them off in the Parks in two or three days. :(

Oh well. I'll just have to go on a scavenger hunt to find some more MP merchandise. (Though it's rare.) I'm thinking seriously about buying some art for my dorm room, as I might have enough extra graduation dollars to buy a small print or something.

OK everyone here are my pin boards! Keep in mind I still have a bag of Pirates pins, a bag of villains pins, a bag of Mickey pins, and a bag Stitch pins that I didn't have room for!  Oh and of course they are not hung up yet! And we have a little tiny space left on the 3rd board for any stragglers we come across...

They turned out great! I really need to do something like that and get my pins up where I can actually see them.

I am alot like the PP with trading pins and have REALLY tried to cut back but no matter how hard I try I stil buy the passholder pins, DVC pins and any "special event pins - F&W, Flower & Garden, MNSSHP, etc. My weakness is snowglobes. I have a collection of around 85 globes. They are not all out at the same time -I have "seasonal" ones -Xmas, Halloween, etc. DH is very partial to the villians so there are a number of them. Had to buy a large curio to display some of them. I have one with all the villians around it and when there is a vibration, the lightening storm goes off and the Evil Queen cackles. There is also another one with Snow White and that one has the babbling brook and chirping birds when there is a vibration. Love them all but I really have to STOP or at least cut back!

We have a snowglobe collection as well! Some are still in storage in my boyfriends mother's house ...i think he has 4 or 5 over there. But we have 21 here at our house and they are ALL on display! LOL Along with the Princesses and the Mickey/Minnie bells I've collected from The Bradford Editions :rolleyes1

I was at WDW last month and bought the vinyl people. I knew before I got there that I was going to look for them. I found them at MouseGear at Epcot. I may have seen them elsewhere but do not remember. MouseGear had a stand in the middle of the store set up with just car accessories. Now my car is Disneyfied!!

I wish I would have known about these when we went! They are so cute! :)

D~

I would say to trade pins. This is the most awesome thing you can do as a reminder other than pictures to take home with you. You can get them out through out the year and remember the fun you had getting them.

We ALWAYS get a t-shirt or two. I can wear a Disney shirt every day for two and a half weeks without repeating. Once, a co-worker noticed I wasn't wearing a dis shirt (I had one of my many Cirque du Soleil shirts that day) and she proclaimed "Ha! you are Disney free today!" She thought she had me until I flashed her my Mickey/Minnie tat on my ankle :lmao:

If I had to give something up, I would have to say the trading pins. Although I enjoy picking out ones that represent us at that time (Mickey wearing a poncho for the time it rained all day), they are currently hanging on the coat rack in my room, buried under the bathrobes :confused3

Pens - every time I go I spend a ridiculous amount of money on pens and they all seem to disappear (I'm a teacher, so you know how THAT goes). One of my students this year broke my Santa Mickey pen and all of the other kids were like, "oooooooh, are YOU in trouble!!!!" So NO more pens!

Okay mine is to stay away from the games in Dinoland at AK. My kids go there every time and end up winning several large inexpensive toys. Finding the space to pack them is a pain. Last year when we went there was hardly anyone around so the kids won about 10 large prizes. I hid them in the closet of our hotel room when we checked out - I didn't have the space in the suitcases or our house for that matter!

Wouldn't you know it it was the first thing my 4 year old daughter asked about when we returned home.

OMG too funny! I am a teacher too and one of my kids broke my Statue of Liberty Minnie pen. I am not sure who, I just found the remnants! :sad2:

I always buy one of those giant skinny pencils- not that fat ones that are impossible to sharpen but the ones that fit in regular sharpeners. It is sort of hard to write with, but I always see if someone "borrows" it! :rotfl:

I buy far too many keychains. I have a box full of them. I don't use them, because I am afraid of scratching or otherwise ruining them.

I also need to learn to stay away from the Christmas store! I love Christmas almost as much as Disney, so I always buy tons of stuff there. There is not a tree large enough for all my ornaments;)

For the kids: no more light up toys, or toys in general. My kids are 10 and 14 though...they don't need any more stuff like that around. It looks good in Disney, but once we're home, it's never touched again!

UGH.. I am beginning to believe the light up toys do not stop ever. Last year the boy just HAD to have "String With Zing"

Uses a black light and did look neat in the dark. Me the practical one asked what he was going to do with it once we got home. He said he could take cool pics of it and wouldn't the cat just love it! Well cat was scared out of it's wits by the motor sound and I haven't seen any cool pictures as of yet. And the toy itself is nowhere to be found, buried somewhere in a box I suppose.

:lmao::lmao:

We got this one also in December. I havent seen it since. Buried somewhere in toy land. I think it was pretty costly if I remember correctly.

We're actually very good about our spending in WDW, but I owe it all to a tip from a very good friend that we travel with.

Instead of buying toys while we are there (even though I allow my daughter to save money to buy something to take home on the last day) - Tink visits our hotel room every morning. It's much more exciting and cost efficient!

We buy inexpensive small Disney toys (action figure, play cell phone, coloring book, etc...) and snacks to take to the parks. For a few months prior to our trip, we watch the clearance aisles, after holiday sales, and the everything for a dollar type stores. Each morning my daughter wakes up to a special group of small gifts from Tinkerbell. Those keep her busy in the parks, and she already has new Disney Toys for the park, so she doesn't ask as frequently. We also gently remind her to make a mental note of the very special item that she wants to buy on the last day, so that she can make a good choice of souvenirs. In the last 10 or so trips, we haven't come home with even 1 piece of Disney junk, and she still plays with her souvenir!

We never buy glow toys from the carts. Usually the first park morning, Tinkerbell brings a glowing toy and tons of glow bracelets, rings, etc. Of course I usually get the glow toys at Big Lots for like $3!

I think some of you may not be old enough to remember that before there were refigerators with ice cube making built in, people had to use ice cube trays.

If your mickey trays are silicone and twisting them around does not free up the cube, then hold the tray over a colander in the sink and run warm water over the upside down tray. Cube should start to fall into the colander.

This will work on hard plastic cube trays also.

Now you can get clever and fill the trays with lemonade, let it freeze and then use lemonade cubes to flavor your ice tea.
:drinking1

We put lemon juice and mint in our mickey trays and put them in ice tea. Love mine! You've got to twist to get them out. I do it over a kitchen towel on the counter to keep them from breaking.

Necklaces and anklets that the rhinestones fall out of!:sad2:

The last thing I bought at Disney was a pair of pink Minnie ears for my DD who was 3 at the time and not with me. She is 15 now and still has the ears. She has been 4 times since, but my youngest three have never been. Dh and I are taking them in Oct. They will have their own money, I can't wait to see what they buy! Kind of interesting to see what will define Disney for them.

Vinylmations!
Love, love, love them. I end up buying so many to get the ones I want, and extras to trade. I will end up with the ones I want, and then buy another one to trade, or just keep trying to buy them until I get what I want. I really need to limit myself to buying 1 or 2 a trip, and being DONE. :)
