I just returned this a.m. and made my plans for the weekend late Thurs. pm for 2 nights at the Poly Conc.. I was helped by the WDTC despite asking for CRO. I was told that I did not qualify for the DC discount since I was less than 48 hrs from arrival(by 2 CMs) which I did not know was a policy. I could still live with all this if they hadn't taken away the MK Surprise Morning on Sunday which we were counting on for our short weekend. Threehearts

This was on another thread. What does this person mean they took away MK surprise morning on Sunday?!? Is she talking about extra magic hour (opening an hour earlier for resort guests) and if so- WHAT IS SHE TALKING ABOUT THEM TAKING IT AWAY?!? I'm leaving tomorrow evening and I am staying till the 28th. I am counting on my MK EE's!!! Maybe not the rest if I feel like sleeping in- but for MK I planned on getting up early both days, including that Sunday.

So is it really gone and if so, how do I find out? All the info I had online just showed what days which parks had that- how do I find out if it's not going to happen?

*pout*

They probably didn't have enough rooms filled to warrant MH.

It's 29 degrees there right now. I bet they cancelled tomorrows Magic Hour too. It will probably be around 35 degrees at 8am. Brrrrrrrr.

I hope it warms up and there's enough people to warrant an early opening next Sunday!

If they do cancel it, the parks have got to be really slow. I'll take an extra hour of sleep if I can ride without lines all day! :)

Sybah, they'll slip a note under your hotel room door the day before telling you that Magic Hour has been cancelled.

They did announce when it came back, that it was subject to cancellation.

Could it have been the weekend of the marathon? I read in a trip report, not the post you mentioned, that it was cancelled one day because of the marathon.

That is probably right, Alisha. :)

I forgot about the Marathon.

So I'm sure our hour is safe! :)

We were at the Poly that weekend. The marathon was on Sunday. They really did an awful job with traffic. People were stopped dead for hours. THe roads were very literally parking lots. We just kept guing the other way, we got to MGM in a decent amount of time, but to see how people were just stopped was amazing. There were resort busses filled with angry people. I am surprised we didn't hear more complaints about this here on our boards.

It looked really horrible.

We went on that weekend because my daughter was due to start some unpleasant medical testing on Monday at D.C. Children's Hospital. We were very disappointed that when we made our original plans we were not told of the change in EE. For our short weekend, it really did make a difference. As an aside, our Tiffany driver said that her friend arrived at a MK resort on the morning of the marathon 2 hours before the parties scheduled departure for MCO and the family missed their flight due to the rerouting of traffic. With all fairness to Disney, we did not check for announcements of changes in EE as we did not expect them. Warning- If there is a major event at WDW be prepared to be flexible in your schedule. Our weekend was still fine but we probably would not have stayed in and paid for the Poly had we known the MK would not be available for EE on Sunday. I guess I would also say that if you have an early morning departure on a big event day, leave for the airport extra early. Susan

Susan, thanks for the heads-up on EE for event days!!
That may make a difference for us in April.
I'm also wondering (since the hours are not posted yet) if the hours for MK around Easter are 8am - midnight (like last year) will the EE be as early as 7am!!!!????? Or will they cancel it?

Susan, hope your daughter got through the testing okay!

Oh, I see. I thought you were posting saying you had just got back AND made shortnoticed plans- ie: for not this weekend but next since you said starting Thursday and you posted it on Friday so I thought it meant the next Thursday! LOL It didn't say you "had" made those plans -it just said made plans. So I thought it was for this weekend coming up and thought you were saying it was gone that weekend. I thought maybe you had some insight I hadn't found yet! LOL

I'm really sorry that happened to you. It does make a difference if you are gone by Monday when they end up switching days around for whatever reason. :(

Lucky3me-they really do that? They list a benefit of staying onsite as being extra magic hour and then just because it's not busy enough (what's that mean? I'm staying at ASMu and everything I've read says they are usually at 90% or more capacity there) they cancel it on a daily basis? Or because it's colder outside? It's weird to me for them to list it as a benefit of staying onsite and then cancel it for any reason OTHER than like a hurricane or something.... or I guess when they have other things going on.

Threehearts, I'm sorry that happened to you. :(

So sorry to learn that EE was cancelled last Sunday during your visit. When you have little time every hour counts, I'm sure.

I know someone considering a stay at the Poly next weekend. You said that you wouldn't stay there unless EE was going ahead. Was there a problem? Is there rehab on the go there now? Perhaps I should suggest an alternate resort such as Wilderness Lodge ( probably my choice)?

Thanks for any insight,

RaeD

RaeD- We love the Poly!! The only reason I might have picked WL was because the Poly was so expensive without a code and the new policy didn't let me use the Dis. Club discount since we were just after 48 hrs. out. Price was the only factor. Susan

Thanks, Susan!

Getting a little nervous that the rehab at the Poly will detract from the experience. I am glad to hear that you enjoy the resort.

RaeD- We were in concierge which is right next to Samoa, the bldg. being worked on. The entire longhouse is framed outside with a very unobtrusive privacy fence. IMHO, choose the Poly without regard to the rehab; it's a very minor issue at this point. Susan
