What New Changes Would You Like?

Agree on the benefit being skewed towards those already having II and the loss of discounted fees. But why would it have to impact request first?
Because it would revert to regular II rules which are far less flexible and have very limited request first options including only a year out. NO way they'd have both systems in place.

well its the truth so unless you want to pay more points per night to make up the difference of lost room nights, it aint happening. Dont you think if they could do this they would? It would actually be in there benefit as well if they could, dont you think? I cant think of one reason why they wouldnt other than the fact they lose room nights, can you?

by the way, your post was filled with great ideas for new changes. thanks :smooth:

Well, since the world is essentially run by computers these days, and since I happen to know a wee bit about programming computers, I have to laugh when I hear the "it's too hard" response. A computer science student intern would be able to write a program that assigns rooms based on requests and time of reservation. I guess maybe Disney doesn't have any interns working for them.
My boss would make violin playing motions at me if I ever refused a project because I thought it was "too hard". I suspect DVC is one of those objects that, once at rest, tends to stay at rest.

lol :D I dont think they are not undertaking this project because it too hard

its probably more of a financial issue than a "too hard to do" type of thing

I don't think it would be as easy as you suggest, especially if they want to integrate the points accounting with the room assignments. The current system tracks each original contract and their add-ons seperately, you have banking and borrowing, trade outs through various venues, assorted types of holding accounts, reservation changes, cash nights vs. points, housekeeping scheduling, CRO Cash ressies then add to that room preferences in a very fully booked resort then it also has to accomodate HA rooms, smoking and non-smoking, views, vicinity (close to check-in, close to bus stop, 1st, 2nd, 3rd floor, etc). Now, try to dumb that system down to be placed online for "Average Joe, I just bought a computer and have no idea how it works" to use without problems.

Overall, a much more complicated program than a similar "cash based" resrevatin system.

Unit assignment priority based on Home resort THEN booking order.
I was really kind of shocked to find out that this is not the case. Owners should get priority on requests. Especially if they are staying 5+ days.

DVD players in studios.
I would take it a step futher and say that every TV should have one. This is a simple low cost change that could be made. Really, with Disneys buying power, whats a DVD player going to cost $15.99??). We have been brining one from home to use in the master-BR so we can actually watch an "R" movie away from the kids.

No need to scrap what exists, I'm just talking about adding functionality.

sjdisney, I swear to you this was DVC's response when I talked to them about this very thing.

To cap this discussion off, all I'll say is that the technical people at Disney probably wouldn't see this as very difficult or expensive to do. But many corporations, especially large ones, tend to run their businesses with outdated software because of the "implementation" risk of rolling out new stuff. I understand this and my previous comments were more tongue-in-cheek than they probably came off. Nevertheless, at some point they will overhaul the software system and if enough of us are asking for this feature, it will get rolled into the update. Until then, one can only hope.

ONLINE RESERVATIONS and point management! The only discount I dreamed for was th AP one so I am quite content that DVC did that for us. Now just get the online ressie system going and allow me to view my points online and I would be set :) If this doesn't happen soon then I would like to see extended MS hours. I think it is ridiculous that the hours are so few.

Quote: unless you're a UK DVC member, where it would be 9:37am ... Would that give'm first crack at reservations at the 11mth window?

The early bird catches the worm!!!
Say's Stevie, Inverness,UK

What about a single DVC/AP Restaurant/cafe lined with the name of its members and themed in DVC memoriblia with specific Guides to help with add on's or the ability to book your next trip via a guide , instead of having to trail to SSR. Not that there's anything wrong with SSR.

All of the listed reasons have value, I to go for online management or 7day MS. Plus free beer.

Have a Lovely Christmas one and all, and may your God be with you.

Pray for those serving abroard and for the families of servicemen and women who will never have another family Christmas.

I'd take a DVC discount on Annual Passes! Oh wait, we just got that.

Hmmmmm, then I'd second the Real Coffee wish, and hope for a real Internet based system for tracking point balances and making rela-time reservations. We can dream, can't we?

fair enough, its something i would too definately love to see in place, if it can be.

I would like to see merchandise that only DVC members can purchase. I like to think that the DVC is an "exclusive" club of sorts, but anyone can go into a DVC resort giftshop and purchase DVC branded items.

It's not a big deal, just something that would make the DVC members even more special than we know we already are.

Here's my wish list:

1. Non-smoking guaranteed, especially at your home resort.
2. Non-handicapped room guaranteed. If I want a handicapped accessible room, I'll ask for it.
3. Free or at least reduced cost High Speed Internet. If I can get free high speed internet at the Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn Express, it looks like a deluxe resort like DVC could do the same for its members.

However, don't the costs of all such "benefits" come out of the pocket of all DVC members? I'm sure that someday in the future a DVC Villa will have free internet w/a simple terminal, just like they now have DVD players, and did have VCRs, etc. I'm not sure, though, if internet access is something that the many want to subsidize for the current few who have laptops to use it.

IMHO - YMMV

Over time, internet access will be an expected utility... just like water, electricity and sewer service is today.

If you gave me the choice between a VCR or internet connection... I would clearly take the internet option. I would even take internet over television.

I do not think it will be too long before we laugh at what we had to do get internet services in todays age... much like we do about going outside to pump the well, or load ice into the ice box to keep our food cool.

Spoken like a true techie ;) . That was my point as well, but I bet that you're in a small minority who not only brings a laptop on vacation but values an internet connection over TV. In any case, don't forget - the ice wasn't free, and no one expected their neighbors to pay for anyone's ice but their own. Until every room comes with hot and cold running packets, I'd expect that everyone pays their own tolls on the information superhighway [haven't used that cliche in a long time ;)]

I"m with Chuck on this one. I would never use a prepaid dining plan but I WOULD like a discount on all sit down Disney owned restaurants!

Yepper...

It would sure be nice to feel it was worth carrying my DVC Membership card around with me.

I really can't beleive we don't get more discounts..i.e...any WDW restaurant, World of Disney @ DDT...etc.

I'm really not complaining..but...it would sure feel great if D would show more appreciation on "owning a piece of the magic".

We have invested big bucks..and guaranteed 40-50 years of spending more $$$. Guess I miss the free park tickets I used to get..
