What needs to be done, cleaning wise, at your vacation rental before leaving?

When doing a vacation rental, what are you required to do or "Clean" before you check out? Do we need to make beds, or strip the beds for the cleaning crew that is coming in?
I would assume we need to have all dishes clean & put away... Do you take out trash, clean / vacumn floors?
None of the sites I've visited, say much about what needs to be done prior to departure.

TIA!

As far as cleaning goes we only ask that the trash be taken out, but find that most guests have the dishes clean and empty the fridge as well. Each homeowner will have management company cleaners come in after every guest so there really is no need for anything else to be done. Obviously there is the other end of the scale where a house can be left in a real mess :scared1: which may incur a charge on a security deposit but that would be rare. I have seen a few homes that request that the beds are stripped but I don't think that is the norm - perhaps someone else will confirm this :confused3

I've stayed at two different rental homes. Both had a "Welcome Book" for guests explaining what is required and expected of the guests prior to check out.

Taking out the trash was the one constant.

If you are really concerned, you could email the owner and ask them directly.

Have a great trip!!

I ask that the beds are stripped so the cleaners know which beds have been used .If staying in a large home then starting a machine load of towels helps too as they can take a while and the cleaners may only have a few hours to turn the home around and bagging up the trash is also helpful to the cleaners.

Although we weren't required to do anything at our rental house we:

1. Cleaned out the refridgerator.
2. Took out the trash.
3. Put all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and started it before we left.
4. Stripped all the beds and made sure all the dirty towels were with the linens, did one load of wash, put it in the dryer and then started another load.

We had a later morning flight and had plenty of time to do it.

When we rented in Windsor Palms, all they asked is that the trash was out and all the towels were to be put in the washer. We started the dishwasher before we left, turned off the A/C and all the lights.

Our home at Windsor Palms had a listing of what needed to be done... also, trash was picked up twice a week (Mon and Thurs if I remember correctly).

Are you sure you weren't with us? That's exactly what I do before leaving a home.
Some of the owners ask you to do this much and some it's just cleaning out food and taking trash out but I usually do the above.

This is what we always do as it just seems to be the right thing to do. The company we rent from don't expect us to do it however.
