What makes The Boathouse a signature place?

Since the boathouse would require 2 dining credits on the dining plan, what is special enough about it to make it be considered a signature place, when a large majority of their entrees seem to be under $30? Some even under $20. Some between $30-50 but a lot of 1 credit places have items worth that value. there's a select few really pricey items but I'm guessing those would actually have an additional up charge along with the 2 credits.

I never understood why the Boathouse was designated as a Signature restaurant. It's more of a diner atmosphere to me than an upscale dining experience. As you noted, the entree cost is lower than most other signatures. The only explanation I can come up with is that the compensation rate demanded by the owner of the restaurant was too much for it to be classified as a standard table service.

My wife and I enjoy the restaurant, but for us it's all about the view of their marina and the Disney Springs waterfront, and less about the food itself. We also don't use the dining plan, so whether it's a signature 2 table service restaurant or not doesn't come into the equation.

Glad I'm not the only one wondering why it uses up 2 credits. Will definitely pay OOP if I decide to go there at some point

Other than the view the only thing that makes this a Signature Restaurant is the cost. I found the service to be average the food to be average and the noise Oh Vey the noise we could not talk in there the night we were there.

Restaurants with $19 appetizers and $65 entrees are signature restaurants. People on the dining plan tend to order the more expensive things on the menu. They can't provide those items at these level of quality with what they get reimbursed for somebody using one credit.

If I want a lunch item or a sandwich there, I pay cash.

The food is dramatically better than the food at most Disney restaurants. And they don't want to take the minimal payment you get as a non-signature restaurant to feed you good food. Classic you get what you pay for

My experience has been that the Disney one credit restaurants have become basically Applebee's. Subpar food subpar service subpar service. There is not a single restaurant that is on the dining plan for one credit that I will even bother to eat at any longer. L

That’s a dismal opinion of Disney’s dining options, and I wouldn’t eat there either if I felt that way.

I haven’t been on a Disney Dining Plan since 2012, but there are places I’ve enjoyed since then that would have been one credit each if I were.

In September, we dined at Be Our Guest, Yak & Yeti and Ohana, and our meals were about 900 times better than any Applebee’s I’ve eaten at.

Boathouse has the best Swordfish on property--and some of the best steak as well. Noisy--yes? But not unusually so compared to other DD spots.

It's a must do for us each trip..

Expensive prices or not - the Boathouse isn't worth it. The food was just as good as other restaurants but the service was ridiculous. They rushed us even though we kept telling them to slow down and we weren't in a rush. They had us out in less than an hour. We won't go back.

We ate at the Boathouse in September and LOVED everything about it. Waitress was phenomenal, hostess seemed to have a slight attitude, but thankfully we didn't need to interact with her. :)

I ate at the Boathouse on Monday night. It was really good. Probably one of the better meals I have had in all my trips to Disney. My server was great.

I wasn’t rushed and i think my speed actually caught the waiter off guard. I just want to eat, get my check and go.

I felt the food was good in relation to the prices. I had the NY strip, Caesar salad, truffle fries (I can’t pass those up) and the chocolate bunt cake. What I paid for it, or would have paid if not on the dxddp, is what I pay for a good steak dinner back home. Quick note—I did have to pay for the truffle fries out of pocket as they were not included in the dining plan.

I did find the seating to be really close together though.

It is definitely on my list for a return trip.

Going to try this restaurant in a week for lunch :) is there outdoor seating and would we be able to request it? Thanks!

They have outdoor seating. If it's nice out, I highly recommend it for the view.
