What major airport is closest to Augusta, GA

Hi everyone,
I was wondering what airport is closest to Augusta, GA? I don't want to fly on some little commuter jet into Augusta and wondered about the next closest airport. I am "thinking" about moving to the Augusta area. I am at the beginning of the looking process and might want to take a quick trip down there to see what it is like. We wouldn't make the move for another year, but "IF" we move, I really want to do my research as to where to move to, so I am starting now.

Since Augusta has commercial service including jets, if you want anything bigger try Atlanta.

Augusta is served by small regoinal jets. You would have to come to Atlanta to find bigger aircraft to fly on. The drive really isn't too bad, though.

Columbia SC is only about an hour from Augusta GA and you will find bigger planes...probably not huge, but not the little prop planes either. Augusta to Atlanta is about 2 to 2.5 hours.

The Columbia airport would be much easier to get in and out of and it's just over an hours drive from one to the other.

Thanks for the information. I wasn't sure what would be closer. I am going to talk to DH tonight and see if we can change our Sept. trip to Orlando to Augusta. I figure we need to start looking now as to where to move to.
