What kind of swimsuit is allowed?

So I have just been reading about the public pools in France, and how they have a strict dress code for their pools. I was flabbergasted to see that they won't allow board shorts or swim shirts. I started looking for information regarding what was allowed at Disney pools, we will be in the sequoia lodge.
All I could find was wording "regular swim shorts are fine." But I wasn't sure what "regular" meant. And I didn't see any mention of whether a swim shirt was allowed.
Does anyone have any information or a link as to what the actual rules are?
And if shorts are allowed, what kind?

The French regulations for public pools don't seem to apply to the Disney hotels pools. Last week we were staying offsite and my husband had to get a pair of tight fitted swimming shorts. But in the Disney ones they are much more relaxed, we stayed in January in the Newport Bay and he was OK with his normal shorts. There were children with swim shirts.

Yikes! My family thinks I'm crazy, because of all the research I've been doing for our summer trip to London, Paris and DLP, but with all that research, I've never come across this!

DH & DS probably won't swim anyway, but certainly not if they have to wear tight trunks!

I hope that elena_n2o is right, and the rules at Disney pools are relaxed.

Get out the speedos. Yes in other places they are very strict on the tight speedo or square tight shorts for men's swimwear. It was new to us also but lucky we found some locally. Now the topless for woman is a new can of worms.

It's for hygiene - men may have been wearing their board/swim shorts out and about before getting in the pool hence transferring a days worth of dust, dirt etc.

I never thought about that. My guys have trunks for swimming and shorts for wearing out in public, but I suppose it could happen. Thanks for your reply!

Exactly! Guess it does happen hence the rule.

It would make more sense to just make showering before entering a pool mandatory. One could be dirty and sweaty, changing swim short doesn't make much of a difference.

They do, but I guess it's not easy to monitor.

I don't believe Disney has to follow those rules as their pools are not open to the public, just to the hotel guests. The public pools are very strict as there was a huge hullabaloo a few years back about Muslim women trying to wear their Burque-kinis. There reasoning was all about hygiene.
