What kind of poncho do you use?

I didn't realize Disney would replace them if they ripped, etc...that's good to know!

For those who use Disney Ponchos...what are your tips for rolling those things up and putting them back in a backpack after the rain stops? We had them during one trip (I tossed them because they got ripped...if only I knew!)...and they were really cumbersome to put away once they were used and the sun came back out!

I fold them just like a shirt (meet the shoulders, fold in half again, etc.) and they fold down into a rectangular size. You can fold them pretty flat. The only time I can't do that is when I'm in a hurry to get it off and get on a ride, then I just bunch it up and it takes up too much room.

They're the same ones. If you have time to wait, you can buy them when they offer their 25% off discount. I am not really sure when they do that though.

We use both types of ponchos. We don't usually carry a bag into the park, so the only time we take our Disney rain ponchos with us to the parks is if we know we're going to have several hours of rain. I'll put them in a small drawstring backpack and we take turns carrying it because those ponchos are heavy when you're carrying 5 or 6 of them. I always put a plastic grocery bag or two (or stop at a gift shop and ask for a large bag) to put our wet ponchos in before putting them back in the backpack. If it's going to be a sunny day with just a chance of a passing shower, whoever wants to have a poncho just puts one in their pocket for the day.

if we need them, we just get the disney ones they are very durable... I tend to just grab a disney umbrella as I hate ponchos when it's hot and humid out. i feel like I am wearing a greenhouse it's so uncomfortable.

We bring both a few disposable ponchos each, and a durable Disney poncho each on every trip. If rain is fairly certain, we're sure to carry the Disney ponchos with us. They are roomier and easier to get on and off if you're going to be wearing them for any length of time.
If the forecast is clear (or as close as you get in FL), we make sure to each have a disposable poncho in the bags when we leave for the parks. They take up very little room, and are certainly better than getting caught with nothing in the event of a surprise shower. We also use them if we're going on Splash or Kali River mid-day, and don't want to be damp for the rest of the day. We stay as dry as we can on the ride with them, and then either tuck them in a belt to dry off, or just throw them away when we get off the ride.

I shake them out and the DH rolls them up and we get a disney parks bag from a gift shop and put them in it - usually there will be a CM standing out with some after a rain storm as people "emerge" from ponchos

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't realize that the Disney ponchos are replaceable. That makes up for the cost. I probably would've bought them that day in HS, but we were at the store beside the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground with the Monsters Inc merchandise and they only had 1 adult and 1 child left.
It sounds like I will bring 2 of the emergency ponchos per person and see what the weather is like. If it is another downpour like last time we will likely invest in Disney ponchos. I hope it's not too big of a hassle to lug 10 of them around all day though. We do have a stroller so that should help.
I've been peeking at the weather this week and saw where it will be 97 degrees this weekend .

Frogg Togg ponchos only, because they are made from a breathable material. You don't feel like you're walking around in your own personal sauna like other ponchos make you feel.

Buy a few dollar store ones.....they are super small when bought (pocket size)...throw them out at end of day....

That's all we had to do when we got ours replaced -- just walked up to the cashier in any store that sells them and they would take the ripped one and hand me a new one. I don't think it matters how long you've had them. I know we bought ours in 2009 and because it rained all week, we replaced each one of them at least once. And we used them again one time in 2011 and I replaced one on that trip with no problems.

Just a note: I've occasionally seen people post a message about not being able to replace the Disney ponchos without showing a receipt. I think that is the exception (most likely a misinformed CM) rather than the rule. I would say that if that happens, just go to a different store and try again.

We were at HS when it poured all day and night. The nice thing about the ponchos is that some parents put them over their strollers to keep the strollers dry. Families were coming out of attractions to find their strollers completely soaked and were ripping up Disney Park bags to lay on the seat of the stroller so the kids could sit down in them again.

They are $9.00 plus tax. It sounds steep but when it is pouring (and especially when it is also windy), it is worth it to be dry. When it was windy, our disposable ponchos were blowing a lot more than the Disney ones. Hence, we got more wet with the disposable. Also, depending on the size of your child, they may need an adult size. When I bought mine, the cm asked how tall my son was. She said that if a child is around her height (she was short, maybe 5 feet tall), they should get an adult. My son is about 4' 8" and the adult size fit him okay. It was big but it didn't drag on him.

We also do both. We usually travel in September and the storms are typically short. For those we use the dollar store ponchos. However, we also have nice packable rain jackets that we take when we expect a rainy day.

I have a variety of Disney ponchos I've been buying since 1988. I also have some US ones, too. I try not to use them at the wrong parks.

Yeah, we use the el chéapos... They have always worked perfectly for us, but we buy them in the Walmart camping section. They are cheap enough that we buy a wad, and pitch each one after first use.

Nothing I hate more than carrying a wet poncho.

I bought the pack of 24 disposable ponchos on Amazon. We used them almost every day on our trip last July. They were small, light and super convenient. It was nothing to throw 5 ponchos in our bag for the day, put them on when the rain came and throw them away when the rain stopped. They never ripped and kept us dry.
