Folks, it's Christmas week. :santa:

Each year I usually pick up a new Christmas CD (I like to be able to touch my music) but didn't this time. Nothing really caught my ear. I was hoping maybe you folks could tell me your favorites and I could still get one from Amazon to enjoy before going back to work in January.

Here are my three favorites that I have now. Tell me your top 3 and why if you don't mind. No playlists, etc. I want suggestions for an entire album or CD.

Artist/Title/Description

1. Chicago/What's It Gonna Be, Santa?/C is my favorite group and the reason I love this album is the band did a tremendous job on the arrangements with the horn section. It has 20 songs on it which is a large number.

2. Tony Bennett/The Christmas Album - Snowfall/Tony swings in high fidelity with an outstanding band that reminds me of Sinatra during his Capitol Records days with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Vocally he doesn't have to hide - that smooth voice is all alone and sounds wonderful. I hate overmixed, dubbed, layered, filtered, autotuned vocals from many of today's artists. These are real.

3. The Carpenters/Christmas Portrait/This is more traditional and has many of the tunes I heard on the radio during the Christmas season when I was growing up. Karen has that low, distinctive voice and hearing these puts me in the Christmas mood. It has 21 songs.

Honorable mention goes to GLAD/An Acapella Christmas.

So tell me some of your favorites. I'd like to get a good variety to consider. :surfweb:

And Merry Christmas with blessings to all the DIS Campers.

Some classic albums to consider.

Frank Sinatra, 'A Jolly Christmas From Frank Sinatra' (1957)

The Ventures, 'The Ventures' Christmas Album' (1965)

Bing Crosby, 'White Christmas' (1986)

Beach Boys, 'Beach Boys' Christmas Album' (1964)

James Brown, 'James Brown's Funky Christmas' (1995)

Transiberian Orchestra, any of their albums.

A Very Special Christmas, assorted artists

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Every year the first one we put on is the Candlelight Processional. The first time we set through that my wife's mission was to find that CD !!!!! That was 12 years ago............still the one !!!!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL !!!!

Bama ...........Good Luck..........Hope it's a good one..........O-H-I-O

GO BUCKS !!!!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

I grew up on Elvis Christmas music...I was literally an adult before I knew there was anything else. Now, we listen to a variety - everything from the classics (Bing and Frank and still Elvis) to new stuff, Buble and the Transiberian Orchestra.

I'm with you, though, in saying that there was really nothing new this year that I just had to have.

Merry Christmas and God bless....and (for the hubbie) Roll Tide!
:cheer2:

Interesting responses.:scratchin

I don't think I'm up for James Brown or Alvin/Simon/Theodore. And 'Teach, DD is an Elvis fan and she has a Christmas CD of his - I can hear in my head "Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me".

The others merit some investigation.:coffee:

1) My tastes are somewhat broad, a little eclectic.
2) After all, I play Bluegrass Banjo, yet I was at Woodstock (YES, the REAL Woodstock). *
3) So, my choices are,

PERSONAL MEANINGFUL FAVORITES:
. . . Foggy Mountain Brokedown (where our RV blew an inside duelie)
. . . I saw Daddy Kissing Santa Clause (settle down!, Mom did all the wrapping)
. . . Rudy The Red Nosed Uncle (he was kind of a lush)
. . . Hallelujah Core Us (we used bob for apples at Christmastime)
. . . All I want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth (after a tough Purdue v Notre Dame Game I played)

SINGLES:
. . . Run, Rudolph, Run (Chuck Berry)
. . . Mele Kalikimaka (Bing Crosby)
. . . White Christmas (Clyde McPhatter and the Drifters)
. . . White Christmas - the original, not the 2nd pressing version (Bing Crosby)
. . . Jingle Bell Rock (Billy Helms)

ALBUMS:
. . . Messiah (George Frideric Handel)
. . . L'enfance du Christ (Hector Berlioz)
. . . Christmas in the Heart (Bob Dylan)
. . . Christmas with Johnny Cash (Johnny Cash)
. . . A Christmas Album (The Ventures)
. . . Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas (Ella Fitzgerald)
. . . Beach Boys Christmas Album (Beach Boys)
. . . A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector (Phil Spector)
. . . The Christmas Song Album (Nat King Cole)
. . . Merry Christmas (Johnny Mathis)
. . . Christmas on the Mountain: A Bluegrass Christmas (Various Artists)

* My ORIGINAL Woodstock tickets are framed in my office with my permanent Harry Chapin Backstage Pass.

Dang!

This is what I get for being a Heavy Metal fan...

Nothing to post...

I listen to a little bit of everything, but for music you can "touch" I like Joy - A Holiday Collection, by Jewel. She has such a wonderful voice, and there's a mix of traditional Christmas songs, as well as some more "commercialized" ones!
