What kind of bottle water

Not that I don't agree that it's pretty darn wasteful, but Fiji has a large container port. Why would they fly it?

Doesn't it have a short shelf life? Don't all the cancer causing agents from the plastic bottles leach in to the water if you don't drink it within a week?

I haven't seen it for free unless there was some sort of special rate or maybe it was included in a resort fee. The last time we stayed at a hotel they did actually have Fiji Water in the room, but there was a sleeve on the neck that said we'd be charged $3 per bottle at checkout.

Strangely enough I remember someone mentioning on a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu. One of the guys from Fiji was telling jokes about various things that could get one beaten with a club in Fiji. He was proud about the water from there though.

Its usually included in whatever corporate rate/resort fee but I have also run into the sign about paying too.

Filtration system in the home, filtration system in the frig. Still use bottled water... biking, walking, every time we get in the car a bottle for each of us.
Too much bottled water..I'm cutting down.
I buy spring water ( whatever brand other than that Z brand that tastes like swamp water) or Dasani ...if it's on sale, because I actually like the taste even tho it's not spring. I typically bring a case to disney. Family refuses to use their tap, not even for teeth brushing lol.

PET bottles? There is nothing toxic about PET bottles. If you're worried about phthalate plasticizers, those aren't used in PET bottles. And a typical "expiration date" on bottled water is maybe 2 years. In fact that's what Fiji Water says is their standard.

What is the Shelf Life for FIJI Water?

FIJI Water uses the standard “best by” date for all water sold in the United States of two years. The “best by” date can be found on the back of each FIJI Water bottle, beneath the label. The FDA does not require an expiration date.

I still don't understand why they would waste all that time and energy to ship water half way around the world. Why don't they just build a bottling plant at the base of the Hetch Hetchy? They could bottle the water and put a picture of John Muir on the bottle.

I don't get it either. I wouldn't say that water is water, because there are differences. I just don't get that there are enough differences to justify paying that much or the sheer waste of shipping water to somewhere where plenty of water is available. The seller does claim that it provides jobs for other impoverished people in Fiji. They also claim that it's just going on regular container ships that would already be bringing stuff into Fiji and sending out other exports.

I heard the main reason they set up the operation was to provide drinking water for people in Fiji.

We have an RO and I have four 32 oz water bottles on rotation that I fill and drink everyday. If I'm out and about and run out of the water I've brought along I'll buy Dasani or Aquafina. When headed out on vacation I buy a couple of cases of whatever is cheapest. Usually that's Arrowhead.

OK - maybe not Hetch Hetchy, but there was a local water district that decided to bottle its tap water and sell it at a premium in a vending machine at one of its reservoirs. That reservoir was popular for picnicking and boating. They did have water fountains there however.

You guys do realize that Dasani is just tap water, right? It could be from pretty much any source like well water or river water. Just purify it via reverse osmosis and add a bit of minerals back so it doesn't taste like "nothing".

The oddest thing I've heard of is spring water that's then processed through additional filtration. Seems like someone didn't quite understand why use spring water instead of tap water.
Yes, I do, which is why I specifically mentioned reverse osmosis in my post.

The only time I buy bottled water is when I'm traveling and can't take my own with me through TSA. Then I buy the cheapest. I don't need my water to be sexier than me! And a blue tinted bottle would definitely be sexier than me! :)

Bought a filtered bottle so out of the tap. I do fill bottles from our water cooler at work, we change companies all the time.

Why not just bring an empty bottle? San Francisco International Airport has these:

And my preferred bottle is actually blue-tinted.

A lot of airports have these things, or at least old-fashioned water fountains.

The only waters I like at room temperature are Dasani (yes I know it's just filtered water), Smart Water, and Fiji.

I prefer very cold iced water so if it's cold I don't care as much. Though, I really detest Evian-it Tate's thick and heavy to me.

I like Smart Water. But we buy Aquafina, but I hate the bottles, they won't even stand up.

Evian has its own "flavor profile". It's not like mountain runoff but water that's been filtering through rock for years. A lot of those have a very heavy mineral flavor.

Aquafina. I also drink Kroger water that comes in cases, but the individual bottle that's in coolers is Aquafina.

I also drink Perrier or San Pellegrino when I buy sparkling water.

Just the grocery store house brand water. If I'm in an airport I'll get whatever the biggest container is--I think it's usually Fiji. I dream of a day when we could be allowed to bring our own water bottles through security.
