What are your top five most prized possessions (other than your kids/pets)?

If you had to evacuate your home and could only take five items with you, what would they be? (Documents like birtch certificates and insurance policies don't count either.)

I think it will be interesting to see what we'd all "save." :goodvibes

Pictures, the flag that drapped my dads coffin, videos of my kids, my grandmothers pearls & rosary.

Vacation videos, photos, family jewelry, glasses/contacts, and some clothes. Luckily, most of my stuff is in storage at the moment, so really the only things I have with me at the moment are the important things.

Pictures, videos, jewlery, cross-stitched house blessing made by deceased grandmother, cross stitched baby samplers made by deceased grandmother.

A family journal that we started in 2000 - it sits on a fireplace for family, friends & any other visitors to write in.

My grandmother's 80th birthday gift to her. It is an album with letters that family & friends wrote to her for that birthday. My mom gave it to me when my grandmother passed away because the gift was my idea.

A "family" book that lists all the births, deaths, marriages, etc. of family members going back over 100 years.

Letters my brother sent me when he first joined the Air Force.

Our scrapbooks.

Oh boy - I'd need to take 6 things because I'd want to take the 2 afghans my gramma crocheted for me. One is a granny square that she made when I turned 14 & the other she made me when I got married.

I had to evacuate my apartment a couple of weeks ago. The apartment attached to mine was on fire (I woke up to the fire alarm). The only things I grabbed were my daughter, my purse and my cell phone...I even forgot to put shoes and jackets on us and it was FREEZING out. Seriously, when there's an emergency, you don't think about grabbing anything sentimental. :rotfl:

So, since I can't include my daughter in the list and other than my purse and cell phone, I guess I would grab the huge bag of photos I have in my living room, and....I can't think of 2 other things. :confused3

Well, that kind of puts things in perspective. :thumbsup2

If I had time to think, I'd grab my jewelry bag, my pillow, our wedding photos, my purse and the emergency stash of cash.

Murano vase I got in Venice, scrapbooks, my 3 African sister dolls.

1. My jewelry box - it has my grandmother's pearls and gifts DH has given me over the years
2. The quilt my other grandmother made me.
3. The cedar chest - it has DD's baptism outfit, the quilt my grandmother made her, etc.
4. The rag dolls my grandmother made me and DD
5. The box with my DH's father's war memorabilia and medals - these documents are the only important ones that I don't have electronic copies of stored at my office - copies just wouldn't be the same.

I

I just realized I didn't put down my own list... :rotfl:

1. My great-grandmothers locket, my great aunts ring, my charm bracelet, my wedding set, and my sapphire Mickey earrings (they are all in the same box in the safe)

2. My platinum album plaques off the den wall.

3. The 150 year old books I inherited from my dad, who inherited them from a neighbor who had inherited them from someone else.

4. Photo albums

5. The external hard drives

I guess it would depend on what kind of notice we had... seconds, minutes, hours or days.

Scrapbooks
Computer
Gun Safe - if we had time, if not then my Colt .45 and a gun of DH's choice
My jewelry box
DS's Train Tub (yeah the one he peed in  ) - It would provide him with tons of entertainment and we have alot of money in Thomas & Friends stuff!

1. pictures
2. computer
3. glasses
4. jewelry
5. my prized possesion.. My Dooney & Burke purse.. :rotfl:  :lmao:

I asked my DH this question and his answers were identical to mine! Good to know he has his priorities straight.

My Mom's handmade quilts, my Tag watch that DH bought me when we were dating, my framed photos in my office - especially the one of the Mouseketeers that they signed and gave me when I worked on the show, photo albums, my laptop.

1. my cat's cremains
2. pillow (had it 30 years)
3. pictures
4. hand made doll I was only allowed to play with when sick
5. family quilts

The idea of losing my gigantic granite dining table would make me cry, but I guess I can replace it with the exception of the granite which is no longer available.

1. pictures
2. my wedding dress
3. DH's X-Men comic books
4. the lap-tops
5. the dog leashes ( I have three large dogs and I wouldn't want to lose them)

1. scrapbooks
2. computer
3. photos/albums
4. yearbooks
5. pets... if they count as items... if not, maybe a box of momentos i have

yeah, i'd really only save sentimental things. everything else can be replaced.

I'm really thinking hard about this. My first instinct is to say that I'd take nothing. There are no material possessions that mean that much to me that I couldn't live without them.

However, after giving it some thought, I guess I'd take pictures of the kids and our wedding album. The rest is just "stuff", except for the 2 puppy dogs, which I'd take before I'd care about any of the pictures.

Maybe I'm just a minimalist? :confused3

1)My road bike
2)My Ipod
3)The dish towels that my mom embroidered before she died
4)The seashore painting my dd did
5)My crystal necklace passed down to me from my mom from her mom
