What is your hot topic? What really gets you going?

When parents don't use car seats or let their 2 year old sit in the front seat.
I don't understand why they would neglect to do something so simple that could save their child's life...

I have to agree. We are crazy about car seats and fortunately we live in a state that has very strict policies about children in cars. My thought is God forbid I have an accident with DD in the car, I at least want to know I have done everyone in my power to protect her.

I don't get ruffled about much but issues related to kids is a big one. In addition to riding unrestrained, smoking around kids is a huge deal for me. I just don't get how someone can be near a baby or child & smoke.

Parents (usually mothers) using government assistance so they can stay at home. I don't care how much you "miss your babies" or how much you "don't want daycare 'raising' your kids", if your spouse can't fund your staying at home, you need to work.

Don't wear "panties", but people who allow others to get them upset or judge others would be mine. Why allow someone else to alter your mood? :rolleyes1

People who say, "But that's all Johnny will eat," when asked not to bring peanut butter to school. Are you seriously comparing your child's pickiness to my child's life-threatening food allergy??!! :scared1:

It was nice to vent that, thanks for the thread, OP! --Katie

People who don't buckle kids in cars. My 11 year old daughter told us that on the last field trip at camp she was made to sit in a seat with a broken seat belt. When my DH dropped her off this morning he told them that if they can't find a seat with a functioning belt for her then she couldn't be transported for the field trip. I'm also a bit surprised and annoyed with her that she didn't make a stink about it when it happened.

You'll love this one then. :rotfl:

There is a girl that I work with (we're both teachers) that just had her 3rd child in June before school got out. I was talking to her before she went out and I asked her what her plans were for next year because a lot of teachers will take a year off to stay home with the baby. She has a 4 year old, 3 year old and now this newborn and her husband is sort of a deadbeat (by her own admission). She told me she was going to "stop working and collect welfare" :scared1: She said that by the time she put three kids in daycare, her salary would be gone, so she would be better off staying home with them.

Klassy. :scared1:

Pregnant women who smoke, parents who smoke while carrying small children, people who smoke in a car with the windows up with kids in the car & people who smoke outside of doors where small children have to walk. Not to judge anyone who does smoke. But as an adult he/she made the choice to smoke. These children are not given a choice & they deserve to be able to breathe clean air. When they are adults if they decide to smoke then that is up to them.

Pregnant women who smoke is a big one for me also, it really makes me sick to see this!

I hate seeing babies without hats/socks on in the winter. I hate seeing children without coats on in the winter while parents have thier warm jackets on.

I hate when you sit in a seat and a child (sometimes adult) is behind you kicking (or tapping against) your chair and the parent says and does NOTHING!

People who leave new born babies in the trash. There are plenty of people out there that can't have children and would love to adopt. I was unable to have my own children so when I hear about someone putting their newborn child in the trash instead of dropping them off at the hospital, fire or police station, I get a little heated. We are so blessed to have our 3 wonderful children join our family through adoption, and I would gladly take any child whose parents decided to throw them away.

Vent over!

Along the allergy note - I am willing to follow the peanut butter rules and the scent-free rules, but how come the aminal and pet rules are getting so lax??

I cannot breath around cats and some dogs - CANNOT BREATH!!! Now cats and dogs are allowed almost everyone - most frighteningly to me - ON THE AIRPLANE!! In a small confined place with recylced air I will not be able to breath!! I have been told, the aminal will not be next to me - but seriously, it is all the same air and once the dander is in the air I will not be able to breath!!

In this day and age all allergies are become more politically correct to be aware of - EXCEPT this one. Now a days pets (small dogs) are an accessory!!! What about me??

(PS I do love dogs, I just cannot have them. So this is not to insult anyone with a pet - it is just an observation of how we have to follow peanut and scent rules and this former rule is no longer being followed!)

This is a big one with me, along those same lines, I get so irritated when people bring their dogs to public functions just because they're outdoors. Things like work picnics, scout picnics, cookouts, etc. We're not allergic, but my children are terrified of dogs, my 10yo especially, he was in the middle of a cub scout ceremony when a dog walked over and started sniffing him. He panicked, started screaming and ran over to sit in my lap. The owner's response was not to come get their dog (until I asked them to), they simply said "Oh, it's okay, he doesn't bite." He has been taught how to walk away, but this dog was huge and it's a strong phobia for him. My son has to get used to dogs on his own terms, like our neighbor's dogs, and forcing your pet on him is not going to help. Plus I don't want a dog's nose in my plate or to be stepping in dog poo at a picnic, at least use a leash and clean up after your pet

People who make assumptions about me based on the color of my skin...

assumptions that if I voted for Obama, that I did so because of his color...I'm sorry, I pay taxes, I have children, I pay for healthcare and I, therefore, vote based on those issue which are relevant and pertinent to my family.

Well meaning, I guess, people who come up to me and speak "hip hop" or give me a more urban/ hip hop type hand shake...professionals mind you, in the name of showing me that they can "relate" to me when in fact I expect a hand shake

the professor in college who "sympathized" with me because I might be struggling coming from an urban area when I grew up in college town usa.

The boss on my current job who didn't want to hire me because (and this comes from current coworkers whom she discussed this with) the last two African Americans who worked in our department didn't do very well...apparently we are all alike.

Whew....yes, thanks!!! This was on my mind as yet another person discussed the voting stuff today!

Interesting thread popcorn::

For me, the biggest on is hats on babies. In winter or summer, they need hats! To keep them warm in winter, and to protect from sun in summer.

I also can't stand, the "a little bit won't hurt" when it comes to food allergies, because often a little bit will really hurt.

The way the education system is going. There is such a focus on continuing education/college after high school that little seems to be done to prepare those that are just not "classroom students." It seems that now a BA is more like a HS diploma and if you have a Masters THEN you went to college. A HS diploma used to be all you needed to find employment, now even basic labor work they want some sort of continuing education. Continuing education and striving for bigger and better isn't always bad...infact it is often wonderful...but then make it affordable for everyone (and getting loans that will take you years to pay back does is not making it affordable!).

Thinking that people with disabilities have no abilities!
