What is YOUR "horrible moment turned wonderful"?

My parents decided to take my children to Disney for DS Joe's birthday this year. So we are at Epcot celebrating his 12th birthday and we all decide to stop for a bathroom break. My son uses the bathroom by Test Track and we procede to go Mission Space. After Mission Space we head to France for lunch. We stop at Canada and England to have cast members sign birthday wishes into the passport we bought and my son looks at me and says "I left my bag in the bathroom." (A few trips ago my mom had bought him a fanny pack that he likes to wear.)
In his fanny pack is a cell phone and ipod with NO id, no room key, NOTHING at all. We fast walk/run back to the bathroom, all the while calling the cell phone which went straight to voice mail. I prepared him that it was gone and sure enough it was. We checked the garbages in the bathroom and around the outside of the bathroom and nothing.
We head to guest relations just to file a missing item report and see if there was any possibility that it was turned in. We described the bag, phone brand and ipod. Low and behold someone actually turned it in!! He is the luckiest child alive. I joked that he should buy lottery tickets.
I asked the cast member if they knew who turned it in so I could say thank you and he told me that they do not keep track of that and he couldn't tell me if it was a guest or a cast member.
Just want to say thank you to whomever the honest person was that turned that in. You restored my faith that people are kind and honest!!

First morning of our first trip staying at a Disney Resort 1996 - All Star Sports
First ride on a Disney bus. We hurried to the bus pick up area and got on the first bus that arrived (we know better now!). Expecting to arrive at MGM we ended up at Downtown Disney. Everyone got off except for us. Bus driver asked us where we were going and then said we would have to go all the way back to the resort and catch the correct bus.:sad1: While we were on the road I saw her talking to someone on the shortwave radio and fiddling with the marquee. Next thing we knew we were pulling up to the front gate of MGM.....just the four of us on the bus. I thanked the bus driver as we got off and as she was leaving I turned around to see the word "SPECIAL" on the marquee. Thanks again to the "special" bus driver that made our cloud turn into sun!:littleangel: Pure Disney magic!:wizard:

On the LAST night of our trip, we were coming out of MK. Pooped and frozen, so tired. There seemed to be 3 buses for other resorts for every ONE going to ours. (ASMu) There were a bazillian teenage girls from Guatamala in the line ahead of us, so it would take 2 or 3 buses before we would even get to ours. We jumped lines to the ASMovies, thinking that we could just walk. The driver asked us where we were going and a whole GROUP of us said "All Star Music"....seems we weren't the only ones with this idea!! The driver told us where the bus was going, but we told him "we know. we have been walking all day...why stop now?!!" We explained the aggravation of waiting so long for our resort's bus. My hubby heard him talking to someone on the radio and soon.....he pulled up to our resort!!! Thank you bus driver! You made our last few hours a relief, instead of a drudgery!

I find it depressing and difficult coming home after being at Disney where everyone is so happy, helpful and just pleasing to be around. Everyone's stories are wonderful!

Last summer we surprised our girls on my oldest DD's bday with a trip to Disney.... it was 5 nights/6 days.... it went by WAY too fast!!!

On our day of departure after such a wonderful trip, we got to spend a few hours in the MK in the morning before heading to the airport. Things were just going so wrong. We encountered a few unhappy guests that were taking their frustrations out on bystanders. :confused3:confused3 It was the most crowded morning of our entire trip and SO hot....

At 11:30am, we made the dreaded journey down Main Street toward the exit :( :( We all had sad faces and my then 6 year old was on the verge of tears because it was over.... Trying to go against the crowds at that time of day was like being a fish trying to swim upstream... LOL! A CM spotted us and jokingly said, "Hey-all the fun's back that way" as he pointed toward the castle..... I explained to him that we had to catch our flight :sad1::sad1::sad1: He looked sympathetic and said he hoped we could come back again soon....

A few minutes later, we exited the turnstiles and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and it was that same CM. He told me that we walked too fast......LOL! He had 2 small plastic bags filled with shiny Mickey confetti... he handed a bag to both of our girls and said that he was sending along some Pixie Dust to take home with us until we return..... :goodvibes

I couldn't hold it in anymore and burst into tears....

THAT is what makes Disney so special :wizard:

When my oldest was 3, it was her first trip. My parents took us on an all expense paid trip to Disney as a nursing school graduation present. I was a single mom. We were staying at "Dixie Landing" (called that at the time) She got soooo sick one night and threw up all over the place. It was about 2 or 3 am. I called down to housekeeping to ask if they could please bring me some sheets.

They came and they refused to allow me to do the bed. I felt horrible, because who wants to clean up someone elses puke in the middle of the night, right? So they clean EVERYTHING and change the bed and put her little dolls on the bed for her. They were soooo nice about it.

Next day, the poor child has a high fever and is sick so she's stuck in the room all day. I went down to the gift shop and asked the guy where to find children's tylenol. I go to the counter with the Tylenol and a stuffed Minnie (I was a single mom and really couldn't afford this minnie, but they didn't know it and I just wanted to get something to cheer up dd)

So he rings up the Tylenol and I said "oh, this too" He said "the minnie mouse is a gift from us to your daughter. Can we gift wrap it for her?"

Then he gets out this big mickey box and couldn't find bright tissue paper. Catch this..he says "do you think she'll mind white tissue paper

I looked at him with tears in my eyes, I was so happy. I said "dude, she'll be thrilled with just a box with nothing in it!" LOL The box was soooo cool!

So I got back to the room with this big bright Disney box and a beautiful plush Minnie Mouse doll and my little dd's eyes just bulged wide open.

I'll never ever forget that man. I can still envision his face. Ok..where are my tissues...

Now I need tissues! Great stories!

I have an interesting story. This occured in August 2008. Warning: there is a LOT of bad, but the end result was VERY good :thumbsup2

**Let me preface this by saying CSR was, and still is, our favorite WDW resort. The following situation could have happened anywhere and is in no way reflective of the overall experience we have had with this fantastic resort. March 2010 will mark our 15th stay at CSR and we have 3 more planned for 2010**

We arrived at Orlando International very late, at about 1am. As I had informed our resort, Coronado Springs, that we would be arriving at 1am I called and informed them that our arrival would now be closer to 1:30. After experiencing issues with Avis we eventually arrived at CSR at 2am.

Service was lackluster from the beginning of the check-in process. There was one CM working the desk, which was to be expected at such a late hour. As we were checking in the CM informed us that our keys had already been printed and were in the administration office. He then proceeded to just sit there.....after about 5 minutes my DDad asked if he was planning on going to get them. The CM explained that there was a person in admin looking for our keys. The admin CM came out 5 minutes later, talked to the desk CM for 5 mins then disappeared again.

We had now been waiting 15 minutes to receive keys that were already printed. 10 minutes passed and the admin CM returned. It was now 2:25am. Our request had not been met (Casitas 1 or 3) but we had been placed in the Casitas, so that was fine by us. We were tired and just wanted to get to bed.

So the 25 minute check-in ended and we proceeded to Casitas 5. We opened the door and the room wreaked of smoke

We thought we would just leave the door open for a few mins to see if the smell would dissapate. Now, I've yet to mention that I came down with a slight cold the day before we left and now the smoke was irritating my throat and making my cough much worse.

After 10 mins of airing out the room we called the from desk to see if we can be switched. The desk CM, same that checked us in, says he will check and get back to us. 5 minutes later we get a call from the manager on duty. She offers to stop by the room to "investigate" the smell.

The night manager shows up at 3am. She says the smell is barely detectable, that she has no rooms available at the resort and that she can offer us a "night" at CBR, but goes on to explain that we could drive over to CBR, check in and then we must check out at 11am, return to CSR and check back in at 3pm tomorrow.

Hmm...checking in to CBR for 7 hours doesn't seem like a reasonable solution to us. We ask to stay at CBR for the 3 nights we are booked at CSR. She refuses, saying there is no availability. We ask her to check POR and POFQ. Without actually checking, she says there is no availability and that we will "either take the room we have been given, or take the CBR room for 7 hours, those are the only options"

Let me point out that we were staying during value season, and that just the day before I had checked hotel occupancy to get an idea of crowd levels and nearly all resorts had availability for our dates.

We ask the manager to check WL as we have a reservation there 3 days from now. She refuses and offers to have our room VIP cleaned in the morning.

At this point, it is 3:30am and we have been offered no reasonable solution. We ask the manager to double check that no rooms, not even suites are available at CSR and we offer to pay the difference if necessary. She refuses to check, states at the 7 hour CBR room is the best she can do, take it or leave it.

Well, we decided to leave, all together. We drove to WL and asked if they had any rooms available. It was 3:45am when we arrived there. The CM said she believed they did have a few rooms and after seeing Dad's ID asked us to wait a moment, went to the admin office and came back out. She stated "actually.....no.....we don't have rooms....sorry." and turned her back to us! :scared1:

Her tone was odd and we questioned her, she said that she saw we had a reservation at another resort and couldn't check us in there. We explained the situation briefly, and explained we had already paid the balance on the reservation upon check-in and would like to stay here. She flat out refused and went into the admin office.

At this point the night manager calls my cell (we had given her the number when she called initially). Convenient that she calls a few moments after the CM went into the admin office.

We explain that we are going to check resort availability and we will return to CSR tomorrow to address the issues we had been dealing with.

We decided to try the contemporary and arrived there at 4:15am. The front desk CM says "yes, we have rooms available, may I see ID" my Dad hands it over and the CM proceeds to the admin office. 10 minutes later she returns and asks "are you are the _______ family? Well we don't have any rooms for YOU." :scared1:

At this point, I am near tears. It is 4:30am, we have been screwed around by Disney management for 2 1/2 hours. We threw up our hands and went to the Hyatt Regency near DTD.

The next morning I called Disney reservations and questioned them on availability. The CM said she had booked many people into rooms last night and was under the impression that the majority of the resorts were opperating at 70-80% occupancy. These resorts included CBR, WL and CR, all of which we has been told had no availability. The night manager had lied. Dad wrote a lengthy letter and we hand delivered it to CSR.

About 2 hours later we received a call from the CSR GM who apologized for the "overwhelmingly unacceptable lack of service" we had received. He solutions were:

1. Upgraded to club level at WL for our 7 night stay that we had booked as woods view
2. Refunded the amount we had paid to CSR upon arrival
3. Compensated us for our 3 night stay at the Hyatt
4. Offered to give us 3 nights in a Jr Suite at CSR to use when we pleased. (we used it to extend our trip by 3 days)
5. arranged VIP illuminations viewing for our trip.
6. Provided us with 4 "front of the line passes" each was good for 4 guests to use like a fastpass at any attraction (with FP) any time during our trip.

It was a wonderful resolution to the worst 2 1/2 hours I ever spent on Disney property.

Wow!:scared1:Did they ever say why they wouldn't rent a room to you? That's awful! Sorry you went through that!

That makes me want to burst into tears! What a great story! Disney is special!

This isn't exactly a "horrible moment turned wonderful", more like a "horrible moment turned tolerable". I've posted this before. On our recent visit (Feb 3-9) traveling with myself, DH, DS, DD, and DH's parents, my father passed away on the 7th. While it wasn't unexpected (he had a massive stroke 6 weeks prior), it was surprise because he was stable when we left. We debated on whether to go and the main reason we decided to continue with our trip was because he had been stable for several weeks. To make a sad trip even worse -- he was to have gone with us. Once we heard the news, I wanted to get home, but it was superbowl weekend, the shuttle launch, and the week of that horrible snow storm in the east. All flights home (houston) were booked. The concierge at the Poly tried and tried to find me a flight that would get me home a day earlier than planned...but outside of driving to Tampa and catching a flight, or flying to Dallas and driving home, there weren't any. They offerred us taxi vouchers to the airport so we wouldn't have to deal with the ME. They were so sweet with it all. But what really made it special - they sent cookies and milk to our room and a sweet note of condolance. I know it wasn't much but I will never forget it!

This past January our six year old daughter had decided to bring her own "Disney" backpack to the parks each day. She had been very responsible and had done a great job taking care of it the first few days.

During our first day at Epcot we went in for our Princess Dinner at Akershus. About 10 minutes after being seated, the Princess’s started coming our way. Our daughter looks for her back pack (which had her autograph book in it among other things) and it’s gone. We look around the table and can't find it. She starts crying, she is devastated. She starts apologizing to us saying that she is sorry and she promised to take good care of her backpack. We are heart broken watching her cry and my Husband tells her he'll back track and see if he can find it.

A few moments later Snow White comes to our table. She sees that our Daughter is crying, she asks her "What is wrong my little Princess?” our Daughter (sobbing) tells her she lost her backpack. Snow White calls her over and gives her a warm hug. As our Daughter looks up, there is my Husband standing with backpack. She smiles but can't stop crying. Snow White takes the bag politely from my Husband and asks our Daughter "What treasures to you have in here?" She finds some Disney lip gloss (starts to put it on our little girl) and brushes the hair from her face and then wipes away her tears. She proceeds to spend another five minutes one on one with her. Only after our daughter is finally calmed down and smiling does Snow White leave our table.

She went so far beyond the norm to make sure our Princess was okay, it was a simply amazing and touching moment. We will never forget it and my Husband even got a few pictures of it.;) Our Daughter has a new favorite Princess now as well.

That's a super story! I'm sure your daughter will always remember that! :cloud9:

When we returned home, our dear friend told us that all along the way, she tried to tip everyone that helped her on the staff and at the airport, but no one would accept it - they all commented that it was their job to help their guests through a very difficult time.

This brought tears to my eyes,... This is exactely why disney is magical!!!

When DS was about 8 he had a Mickey baseball cap and several pins on it. For some reason he took it off in the bathroom at Cosmic Rays. We noticed about an hour later he didn't have it. He remembered taking it off so we went back. DH found the hat in the bathroom but it had been stripped of the pins. Some were birthday pins and had special meaning. We told a manager what had happened but all he did was apologize (not that we expected anything). A CM that was sweeping over heard the conversation and grabbed us before we walked out. He gave us a voucher for more pins than what DS lost. It was very nice of him and DS was thankful to be able to find some of the pins that he had lost.

On another trip at was just DH and myself, we were traveling from the Swan/Dolphin trying to get back to OKW. We knew we could take a boat to HS and a bus back to OKW. Well, the boat captain would not let us on the boat because HS had closed even though it was bringing guest back from the park. He told us we would have to take the bus to DTD and then to OKW. IF you have ever done that, you go from Swan/Dolphin to YBC and a then to BW. Once at DTD, we went from MP to PI and then to the West side (when there was a bus stop there). I think it took us almost 2 hours to get from one resort to the other. It should have taken no more than 30 (and probably less). We called to report that the captain would not let us board and they took our home phone number as we were leaving in the morning. The manager called us later at home and explained that the captain should have let us board the ship and what could he do to make it up to us. I didn' t know but he offered us dinner at any restaurant in EPCOT on our next visit. We came back about 6 months later with 3 kids in tow and 5 free meals at Le Celier.

love reading these stories!

my big one- octobers trip. we arrived september 30th and headed to hs for emh. the next day we went back. i was going between wearing my sunglasses and glasses. we stop to watch the parade at 3 pm. by this time its so hot and my eyes are burning from the sweat in my eyes...so i look for my glasses, that were orginally tucked on my shirt. they were gone! the last place i had them? back by mater and lightning. and we were now up by AI..and wandereed everywhere. im frantically tearing the stroller apart, looking for them without my glasses on to see. i was freaking out. dh is trying to wrangle the kids to watch the parade while im still tearing everything apart. no luck...i was so mad at myself. i had previously lost sunglasses on btmrr, same reason. sooo we go to dinner, at h&v and tell the cm, he said to check guest services for lost and found. i had no spareswith me. so we finish up, me sulking cus even tho im on vacay i wont get to see most of it! head to lost and found a wonderful cm whos name i didnt get asks for a description of them. i give it, she come back and has them in her hand!!! i was so overjoyed i was nearly crying and asked if i could hug her! lol she said someone found them- i think a cm, better yet- not a scratch on them!!!

2 more- same trip...same day we left our spray fan on the great movie ride. dh goes to ask the ladies at the door, they asked who was our guide-we say brad- sure enough he had located it and was about to turn it in. fast forward to our last day on the way to ak. were on the bus laiden down with all our stuff and the kids. get off go see pocohontas, get the hair wraps as promised to dear daughter. at some point we realize the mister fan was missing...again...we think back. yep left it on the bus. we went to lost and found again. she comes out with one that wasnt ours. she then gives us a number to call the huge l&f dept tomorrow- we were leaving tomorrow. so she said go ahead take this one...i said no we cant. she said not to worry so many get lost and left behind, to take it and not worry.

i suspect this trip we'll loose it atleast 4 times. oh and i have transition lenses this time so no need for the sunglasses! :thumbsup2

2 years ago I did a Carnival cruise with my cousin a friend - a
"Girls Cruise". In St. Thomas, we bought very similar matching bracelets to celebrate our trip. Fast forward one year, and I did a Disney Cruise and WDW trip with DH and our 2 DS's. We go to Blizzard Beach, and of course I never took that bracelet off, so left it on - despite DH's warnings. After lunch - you guessed it - no bracelet. The CM's shut down slides, climbed in the bottom of trun off areas, dug through the mess that gathers in the grates, etc - no bracelet. I'm devastated, fill out a lost and found, and got a new Mickey Mouse watch from hubby because he felt so bad about saying "I told you so!". Despite repeated calls to check, it did not show up before we had to head home to Canada.

FIVE months later, I get a letter in the mail from Blizzard Beach, with my bracelet included! The letter told me that the ski patrol were doing some repairs on the mountain, found this and wanted to know if it was mine! Needless to say, I was amazed. The bracelet is now repaired and back on my wrist (the other wrist has my Mickey watch!) and looking great considering it spent 5 months exposed to the elements. This will always be an example of Disney Magic to me.

Wow, these stories are amazing.

The only one I can think of is on my last trip in September, we brought along my 5 year old cousin (Laura). On our last day she had gotten sick and well, made a mess, so my mom was going to just give up and take her back to the resort. They stopped by the baby care center on their way out though, and the CM there helped clean her up and got her a brand new outfit with Tinkerbell on it for free. It truly saved the day and Laura was happier than ever with her new fairy clothes. :)

That is a great story, and I am glad your daughter got her backpack back!! :flower3:

We took our first family trip to DW after my husband had finished training away from us for about four months. We- my DD3 at the time and my DS 9ms- drove down to Georgia for his graduation and then we decided to take a two night three day trip to Dsiney to celebrate him finishing up. We didn't have a lot of money to be paying for the trip, but my mother in law had no expiration tickets left with two days on them so we would be covered for that. So we decided to go.

When we got there the first day the tickets worked and we entered the park and had a blast. The next day, we go to enter- the tickets won't take, they are finished! So we went over the customer service window, knowing that if we couldn't use those tickets we would have to leave.....the girl at the window looked at them and said that something went wrong with how the water parks were applied all those years ago? I don't know, but I was just about to pack it up when she asked us, "How many days are you here for?" Just today my husband said. I was trying to think in my head how I was going to get out of this predicament with my daughter and my heart was sinking when she said, well today you will all be entering the park for free on a Dream Come True Ticket! I was so shocked and thankful! It was truly amazing of her to do that.

We got her name and city and made sure to compliment her service during our stay. We have been going back every year since and are so happy with the generosity of the staff at Disney World!
