What is wrong with the Mayor of Baltimore?

No, the point is the rare criminal who dies at the hand of overzealous police (or in some cases, police simply doing their jobs) is somehow a spark for all out riot while the day to day killings amongst the population doesn't so much as grab a headline.
1) Freddie Gray was not committing a crime yet, somehow, he ended up dead at the hands of the BPD. That is what has sparked the outrage.
2) Incidents of police brutality in this community are not rare. It is an issue that has been ongoing for decades. There was an entire TV series based on the corruption of the BPD and their contentious relationship with West Baltimore, for goodness sake. Situations left to brew will eventually reach a boiling point and THAT is how the Freddie Gray incident "somehow" became the spark for an all out riot.
3) This is Baltimore. Murder reports ARE our nightly news. Perhaps our day to day killings aren't making headlines in Missouri, but that doesn't mean they aren't being reported.

I personally would not assume that anyone who raises their index finger in the air is making an ISIS symbol. It's a gesture that has existed in American society far longer than ISIS has been in existence. I do not claim to know what those individuals were trying to convey with their raised index finger, but to jump to the conclusion that it can ONLY be solidarity with ISIS, strikes me as a hasty conclusion.
Right? Remember Barack and Michelle's "terrorist fist bump?"

Thanks for the link to the pictures of decapitated heads. Just what I needed to see when I was eating lunch. :sad2: Might be a good idea to put a warning, just so people who don't want to see it, can avoid clicking.

Wow, drama much? The page and picture I linked and referred to shows NO decapitated heads! And if you were so worried about others seeing it why did you copy my link in your reply?

This says it all. No one wants to talk about the crime and murders happening among the community members. It's only news if police are involved in some way.

You don't even know what you're linking? Take another look counselor, it's the 3rd picture under the video. *SMH*

Posting links to political sites is a pretty quick way to steer this thread into topics that will get it closed.
Give me a break - this entire thread is political! It's just when ideas differ from yours you decide to get on your high horse and report comments.

No, one wants him involved.
Well, we will see if the politicians in Baltimore send Sharpton on his way. He should be in jail - the rest of us would be if we owed that much in back taxes.

was posted on yeah another extremely conservative website.
It was also reported in the New York Times - definitely not a conservative source. What is to be gained with his presence - he stirs the pot, collects his "donations" and heads off to another part of the country where he can have his face on tv.

You are right. I took a closer look. Did not see that picture before but as I have stated many times I linked just for the picture of the gangs and NOI picture together at the riots. That is it.

Tipsy is saying that murders in Baltimore ARE news in Baltimore all year round - police involvement or not.

And even if that weren't the case: Yes, I would expect police involvement to make something more worthy of news. When the government is acting, people around the country are inherently more interested and invested than some street fight in a random city thousands of miles away.

I feel so bad for the innocent citizens in and near Baltimore. There has to a better way to stop injustice than more injustice.

Exactly...you're not understanding me. The muurders that are happening everyday need to be national news. But it won't because that will make those neighborhoods look bad. It seems like they only want to make it national news if police are involved. Making it look like police are killing them when that is just not the case.

The point is that if a police officer is involved the shooting makes EVERY national news channel, tv show and even People magazine. And they don't let the facts get in the way. Like the Michael Brown case - the investigation uncovered forensic evidence that confirms Brown reached into the police officer’s vehicle and punched and grabbed Officer Wilson thus he was later exonerated. Brown was never running away screaming "hands up, don't shoot" according to EVERY witnesses (many of them black) yet you still here those words in Baltimore today. But this has never been about civil rights for most of these people, it's been about stealing, assaulting and burning down innocent people's homes and stores. And even though we have their faces on national tv, they will never be arrested or made accountable. So this will continue to happen on our city streets until there are consequences to CRIMINAL behavior.

Well said.

I didn't report any comments.

There's a big difference between discussing a topic which naturally has a politic undercurrent and repeatedly posting links to extremely political sites.

Sharpton's taxes have nothing to do with Baltimore.

I agree. I am utterly astonished that any link from that place would be OK here.

It doesn't surprise me. Threads like these always end up with links like that.
One of the most reprehensible websites I've ever seen was through a link posted here on a Ferguson thread.

If the moderators have a problem with it they can delete it. You are the one bringing attention to it.

No, the vast majority of our police-involved shootings don't make the national news. The Freddie Gray incident (not a shooting) has resulted in riots and looting. That's what has made it noteworthy enough to reach the national level.
