What is walk-off like in Barcelona, please?

We've never been in the Barcelona cruise terminal before, and are scheduled on one of the Mediterranean cruises next summer.

How easy is it to do walk-off with luggage there? Specifically, I'm wondering about dragging off the luggage. We just disembarked earlier this month in Dover, and had to do a few small steps/ramps that were a tiny bit difficult. (Or maybe it's just because I have a bad back. I can easily roll luggage, but getting a bag up or down a small step is a bit trickier.)

I ask just because I'm trying to arrange a half day tour of Barcelona before our afternoon flight, and I'm trying to figure out our options for pick-up time.

Thanks in advance!

Soooo easy! Much easier than Port Canaveral. It took 30 minutes to walk off and be at airport via cab!

Nice! Thirty minutes sounds fantastic.

Do you remember how far you had to drag/roll your luggage, specifically? Or how easy it was to navigate the path off the ship with your bags?

FYI, in case your tour doesn't include holding the bags for you when you get off of the ship there is a service called Bags & Go that will take your luggage to the airport for you. You take the luggage over to their stand at the port and they tell you where to meet them at the airport at a designated time depending on your flight. We used it for our med cruise this year when we had a later flight so we could tour around Barcelona. It worked out great!

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. (Others will likely benefit as well.)

I was probably going to use Barcelona Day Tours, which does hold luggage . . . but this would open up other possibilities as well. Thanks!

We had a 9:30 AM tour with Barcelona Day Tours on our Med cruise this summer. We chose not to carry our luggage off of the ship. The luggage was literally right there in the terminal as soon as we got off the ship at 8:30 AM. There are no stairs, ramps or escalators once you get your luggage. We waited outside the terminal for our tour to pick us up. It was a fabulous tour.

Thank you - I hear only good things about Barcelona Day Tours!

I would normally be very mellow about the pick up time, but we'll have an afternoon flight out of Barcelona that day, so I want to fit as much in as possible into our half day tour.

By the way, do you mind telling me more about what you got to see on the half day tour? I'm hoping for a tour of La Sagrada Familia, plus a nice lunch somewhere. Anything else we can fit in would be great!

You had to roll it down the usual gangway from ship to shore (maybe 100 yards) and then down an escalator, and across a flat hall to the taxis outside. I don't recall any heaving or ho-ing, and I had two kids with me who were also doing their own luggage without any difficulties.

As far as possibly doing Sagrada Familia, it is a MUST - we really enjoyed it, and I've seen a lot of cathedrals! Very different! Make sure you book tix in advance though, they sell out early!

We actually did 2 tours with Barcelona Day Tours. On our first half day tour, we did 9 to 1 and got to a tour of the city with stops at Montjuic and entry to Park Guell. Lunch as not included and I don't recommend using your tour time for lunch. We had our guide drop us off at La Sagrada Familia at the end of our tour. We bought tour tickets on our own through La Sagrada Familiia for the afternoon. (Get them early so you can get an early time). You can customize your tour however you want, but it might be tight to both the park and La Sagrada Familia. There was a wonderful Tapas place right next to La Sagrada Familia for lunch. Our second tour after the cruise when to Montserrat. You can read all about it in my trip report. The link is in my signature below.

Thank you for the reassurance! I feel the same way about seeing La Sagrada Familia; it's the one thing in Barcelona that I am SUPER excited to tour! :)

Many thanks! Do you happen to remember what time you walked off? Or when they cleared the walk-off passengers to leave?

Thank you. I have to go back and finish your trip report; I think I was part way through it when I left for our British Isles cruise about a month ago.

For us, having a meal is a huge part of the experience, as it will be our only meal in Barcelona. If we can get a nice lunch, I'll consider it time well spent on the tour before we have to be whisked away to the airport. ;)

ps . . . How did college check-in go?

As LATE as politely possible (we didn't want to leave). I think they asked everyone to be off my 10am, so we would have departed at 9:55am. Or maybe it was 9am, in which instance we would have departed at 8:55am. I think people were cleared to walk off from around 7:30am, but I'm really not sure.

Hi Neighbor! Check in went really well and she is adjusting. She joined the Disney Club and found her peeps!

With lunch with your tour, you'll be very limited on time and may have to choose only one thing to tour, which in your case sounds like La Sagrada Familia, which is totally worth it.

 That last day is always so sad, isn't it!?

I'm glad your daughter is off to a great start! Yay!

Yes, I've pretty much decided that a good tour of La Sagrada Familia plus a good meal would be time well spent. Anything else we can drive by will be gravy.

As to La Sacrada Familia, I don't know if you can still do it, but we became members/friends of the church. It came with an update news letter about 2 times per year. We walked up, showed our membership and walked right in. My old links to the amicalasagradafamilia don't appear to work anymore. They may have updated their web cite. But it is worth checking out. I should have maintained the yearly cost. It was only a little over $50. It also made me feel part of helping build it.

Bags & Go is awesome, that was the easiest thing we've ever done! And they take it from you right there inside the terminal, by the time we got out by the taxi stand we had no bags aside from backpacks (camera and valuables, everything else we left with Bags & Go). When we got to the airport, it was there just like they said and very easy to pick up (a bit of a hike to get to the pick up spot, but I think we got lost too because someone gave us bad directions).

That's a great idea! I did something similar by becoming a "Friend of the Globe" or something like that in preparation for visiting Shakespeare's Globe this summer. It got us priority access to performance tickets, and went to a good cause.
