I was reading in my Passporter and it mentioned turndown service. But it did not say what it is. I know this is probably a stupid question. But I don't know the answer. :) Thanks in advance.

They "turn down" the sheets on your bed before bedtime.

They generally will check the room for supplies (towels, TP, etc) when they do this.

Also, a chocolate is usually put on your pillow.

Not really a bit deal, but I'd take it if it was free.

It's usually only "free" if you are spending a lot of money. :rotfl2:

Whacked is correct.

Turndown service has always seemed , well, bizarre to me..... :flower: DH and I had turndown service at a very fancy resort in Long Boat Key, and the pointlessness of it just cracked us up. :rotfl:

Yeah, It's pointless, but I LOVE being pampered!!!

Not only do they turn down your bedding and fluff the pillows, but they'll also replenish any used towels and empty the trash as well! At the Dolphin they left a card with the next day's weather forcast.

The foil wrapped chocolate on the bed is a nice touch too!

Do you pay for this at the S/D? Thanks for the info!

Do they do this at AKL? :flower:

AKL is a great place to get turn down service. They leave the neatest cards with a drawing of animals and an African proverb printed on it. It is standard for concierge guests, and available to others if you call housekeeping.

Do they do it at the Poly and would it cost extra? We're staying in a garden view.

Do you tip for turn down service? Would it be different if you were in the room when they came - sometimes I leave a tip for them if I'm out of the room, but I never know whether to hand them a tip if I'm already in for the day when they come. Or, do you not tip at all???

I'ts available for free at all WDW deluxe resorts. If you are staying concierge or in any room at the GF it's standard. If you are in a non-concierge room you need to request it.

It is appropriate to leave a tip or hand it to them, $2-3 is sufficient.

Also in replenshing room supplies, towels, soap, etc, they removed any dirty ones and the trash. We enjoyed the tidying of the room more than the actual turning the bed down as we usually had made a mess getting ready to go out for dinner and it was nice to come back to a nice, neat room, fresh towels, soap, lights left on to welcome us and the beds, neat and ready to slip into.

Janet2K - thanks for the pics...I CAN'T wait for our next trip...turn down service is WONDERFUL!!!

I'm glad my photos helped. I have a very eclectic collection of resort photos, that is true. Of course, now that I have viewed the Turndown Service photos, I am trying to talk my husband into making a run to 7-Eleven for a candy bar that he can break up into little pieces and place on my pillow tonight. ;)

If one is staying at a Deluxe resort, but not concierge, how early does one need to request turn down service?

Good question. My guess is that as soon as you check into your resort, you should place a phone call to Housekeeping to put your request in. The earlier they can put your room on their schedule, the better.

So if we are staying Concierge at AKL this is one of the services that we will recieve? Do we tip on a daily basis, or at the end of our stay? If this is part of our stay, I will feel soooooo pampered! :flower:

Yes, for concierge, it is standard. Most people tip each day since the housekeepers may be different on different days.

Have a wonderful trip! :)

As far as when to call for other folks... I always call right after I get in the room and settled.

We've also had the ice replenished in our ice bucket at the GF. It wasn't requested but a nice touch.
