What is turndown service?

We call after we get to our room and just request it for the length of our stay.

Another *treat* about turndown is they turn the tv to the Disney bedtime stories! :flower: We do have children so, that might have made a difference.

:goodvibes I can't help but recall the poster who was angered by the turndown service....they thought it was a huge inconvience each night to be interrupted by the staff...sometimes during (eh-hem) activities. I guess they didn't realize you could request to not have turn down service just as you can request it, if you so desire. Personally, I love turn down service, but I guess it's not for everyone :rotfl2:

I love turn down service--I guess it just makes me feel *pampered*. I have to remember to call & request it when we arrive at the WL :) :cool1:

Ladyhawke10, your post just may have saved my marriage... "Not tonight, honey, I have Turndown Service."

By the way, do you think I can request it more than once a night (for example, every hour on the hour)? ;)

I was reading in my Passporter and it mentioned turndown service. But it did not say what it is. I know this is probably a stupid question. But I don't know the answer. :) Thanks in advance.
THey send a really beautiful girl to your room..... she knocks on the door, you answer..... she says " I was sent here for you", you ask her to come in...... she says "NO" and walks away. Now thats a turndown!!

Turndown service has always seemed like it would be inconvenient. It's hard enough trying to not be around when mousekeeping comes to clean during the day.... but to have to hassle with it at night, too!? Who needs it? :earboy2:

It is indeed pointless. What, next they will be tuk'en ya in too!

Hey, it's worth a shot! :rotfl:

Count us in the group of people who LIKE turndown service! :flower: It's a nice benefit of staying concierge and/or in a deluxe resort. We've never been in our room when they housekeepers have been there so it's never interfered with our plans.

Turndown service is not "pointless", in my opinion. We take showers in the morning and use the towels, then after being in the parks all day, we take showers again before dinner (most nights), so having clean fresh towels in the room twice a day is a good thing. :) I also like walking into the room and seeing the soft lighting, the beds turned down, the pillows arranged nicely, and chocolates on our pillows.

Agree, We love it! :wizard: Especially in the summer. When you come back to the room for the mid day break and swim. Then you shower to return to the park for the evening, or to go to dinner. We go through towels left and right and its just 2 of us. (ok, 2 sisters). :confused3 Then you return and its still 90 out and you want to shower again before hitting the sheets so towels again. I think I shower 3 times a day in the summer some days.

Tipping we usually are not in the room, just leave a few dollars in the room for mousekeeping. If we happen to return, unexpectedly and they come, I just trade towels with them and thank them for coming etc.. . and tip them then. You still get the chocolates. ;)

Having the light on when you get back is nice, and I like the way WDW caters the turndown to the hotel. You get a little card that is related to the hotel, and sometimes the "mint" is themed, too. At the Boardwalk, you get taffy, that kind of thing.

I don't consider turndown a really helpful thing (like valet) and sure wouldn't pay extra money to get turndown service. If you don't have it and want more towels, call housekeeping and they'll send 'em up.

Now that you mention it, I did notice that the chocolates at the Wilderness Lodge have the "Wilderness Lodge" logo on them, and the chocolates at the Polynesian have a pineapple on them. lol I don't remember what was on the chocolates at the Grand Floridian. :scratchin

Turndown service in and of itself does not cost extra, except for the tip to housekeeping. The only "charge" for turndown service is the cost of the room itself, at a deluxe resort :)

I love turndown service! They have always arranged my oldest son's toys cleverly and while he's always been asleep and missed them he sure enjoys the pictures.

It's not "pointless" at all--it's a little treat during our escape from reality. If we can't enjoy the rare luxury of someone else preparing our room so we return to a welcome environment on vacation, when can we enjoy it??

We've never been in the room during that time. I guess it usually happened when we were out to dinner.
Our schedule is usually -- out by about 9:30, come back to the room around late afternoon/early evening relax in the lounge w/drinks & snacks then to change clothes for dinner, go to dinner and then maybe walk around where ever we are at (DTD, CR, MK, Epcot, etc...), come back to the room and if it's not late the kids go swimming, then bed.
