What is the worst damage wind has done to your home?

Been in my house 40 years. Back fence has been blown down twice. West fence blown down twice also.

We have over 2 acres which is mostly trees so have had those downed and always limbs and such.

Wind can be very powerful and it often damages fences. I've seen fences blow down after a bad storm hits. You should make sure your fence is secure and check it regularly, especially after a strong wind. If your fence has taken some damage from the wind, you should repair it as soon as you can.

Wind once blew over a large water oak in our yard, which unfortunately flattened our detached garage.

We've had our chimney cap blow off and land next to our neighbor's house. Luckily, it didn't damage the house when it landed.

Huge old tree came down hit the house - took out electric & phone wires on way down ! Luckily only top branches hit the house as it fell sideways ( thankfully ) not huge amount of damage - had it dropped straight would fell right into house ! Happened when I was a preteen - to this day I do not like trees around my house ! Usually get them removed as we get way too many storms with bad winds !!

I had a bayview window blown out during Hurricane Hugo in 1989.

I had a chimney cap blown off several years ago.

Wind sheared off a limb from a neighbor's tree that crossed over our back fence in the backyard and took the fence with it. When my DH got his first, crappy, car he visited me at my parents' house. He stayed over and the next day high winds caused our tree in the front yard to fall on his car. It didn't look any more dented than it did before but it took out his front windshield.

While we do get really winds here, hail is much more destructive. One hail storm at our previous house was so bad every home on our street needed a new roof afterward.

A tree was blown over and ruined half our roof, blew off our back screen door, damaged our air conditioner. It blew a row boat across the road, upside down and was slit down the middle from a tree. A mobile home a block away was turned over and unfortunately a 2 year old was killed. This was straightline winds in OK.

We had a row of trees to help avoid erosion behind our backyard fence. Wind blew one down twice. Both times it took out part of the fence. The second time it fell directly toward my daughters window…she screamed as it approached. The deck and stairs to the lower deck were trashed, but except for sticks and leaves, it was barely too short to have been a potential tragedy! Trees came down (16 of them) the next week.

A few years ago at our old house we had a small tornado that was estimated to have come down .5-1 mile from our house. The outer wind bands/gusts were apparently strong enough that our house shifted. A door that would not stay closed from the house settling now closed. There were also cracks in walls on a specific side of the house. Nothing too damaging, but surprised us.

I have to tell you, I do not miss that hail in the midwest. Our air conditioner looked like it had bullet hole indentations in it. Scary as crap when driving.

Nothing to my house. A tree blew over and broke my neighbor's fence. Thankfully my neighbors are awesome. DH helped with clean up and installing the new fence.
