What is the "pin code trick?"

I have tried this many times, and the only time I have gotten a pin code was for a cruise (we don't take cruises--so I wasn't looking for that). I wonder if they know we will go to disneyland without their pin code--so forget giving us one!:lmao:

I just tried it for the dates for our fall trip, so we'll see what happens.

I noticed on the "My Disneyland" page where you can edit your profile details, there's a section that lets you choose a communication preference; either email, or snail mail. Does anyone know if that influences which way they'll send you the pin code?

Did i read someone got a free dinning offer from Disneyland?

I don't think DLR ever does free dining, but WDW has pins for that all the time. Sometimes if they have given all the pins they'll give or your criteria doesn't fit, they'll send one for a cruise or WDW.

Good question, wonder if it makes a difference.

I have mine set for email and I've gotten my pins via snail mail. I set up my friends account when I helped her plan her trip last October. Hers was also set to email and first she got a WDW pin, which she obviously didn't need and then about a week or two later, she got a DLR pin via snail mail.

DL did have a free dining trial that was not widely publicized. I believe it was a few months back. One or two people on these boards got it. It most likely won't turn into anything regular since dining at DL and WDW are so very different. Not sure why they did it at DL at all.

Good to know! If it was free, I would be interested in that. I think we all agree that their dining plan is poor at best.

I definitely think that is a pin that would be smart for them and that people would utilize.

It's where you register at Disneyland.com and immediately after save your booking (but not book it) and then wait. Within a couple weeks you'll get an email to the address you registered with that has a pin (mine was 35% off) for one of the 3 DLR hotels. It's pretty cool, you should try it!

What?! I've never heard of this! Sounds amazing. I will have to try it!!

I tried this last year. Saved a bunch of times. Didn't get any offers, so I went ahead and booked GCH with a AAA discount. About 2 weeks later I did get a PIN -- for WDW. :rotfl: I hadn't even considered going there, and hadn't touched that website. After getting over my initial irritation, we realized that it was a much better deal than DL (we had 35% off rooms there) so we cancelled DL and booked WDW, so it wasn't really a bad thing at all.

But I haven't had any luck in getting a DL PIN by saving offers. :confused3

This thread was started 2 years ago, and until today it was last active in early 2012 - before Cars Land opened and the DCA makeover was finished.

I don't think the pin code trick works anymore - at least, not in the same way or as effectively as it used to work a long time ago, and/or the discounts are not as good. Disney didn't want to offer too many good discounts last year when they knew they'd be reeling in the guests to see the new DCA. None of the discounts - including AP discounts - have been as good as they used to be.

Of course, this could all change in the future if DLR starts losing business or attendance is down, but I haven't heard of the specific pin code trick working for DLR in a long time.

That would irritate me too. Only because I live in CA and never to to Disneyworld. Although we do want to go sometime. Maybe when my twins are a little older. They just turned 4. I actually just saved a trip for this coming Sept. I'm hoping I get a PIN. We shall see....Doesn't hurt to try.:confused3

Not surprised they aren't doing it as much as before. Kind of like how they were offering 40% off all DLR hotels for a few yrs in a row. Even in the summertime. There was nothing like it! It was the best. We took full advantage of those rates, too.

I remember those wonderful glory days of the great hotel discounts! Even 35% off was wonderful. As the hotel rates go up and up, the discounts get less impressive or they come out less often.

It's quite possible that Disney just held back on offering too many discounts last year because last year was the year they expected tons of guests to descend upon the Resort. However, maybe this year and next year they will go back to releasing more discounts.

One encouraging thing is that you said you saved a September trip. Even though Halloween Time is a popular season at DLR (it should probably begin somewhere between 9/13 and 9/20), September is still considered off-peak season (post-Labor Day). The off-peak times would be more likely to yield discounts, so you may be in luck. You never know. As you said, it can't hurt to just save the offer.

I saved Sept 11-15. I will be shocked if I get one, but worth trying for.
