What is the "one time exception"?

Does this refer to waiving banking windows, or what? Our dear friends have a child in crisis and just called to cancel out on our trip Apr. 3 - 10. We will still go but now will be canceling their 1 bedroom. I guess I will be booking another trip before Oct. 1 using holding points or maybe doing an II trade (if it's okay with holding points?) I don't expect that the "one time exception" will give me any other options, right?

Sorry to hear about your dear friends, sending pixie dust to them and their child :wizard: When you cancel their ressies your points will go into holding and you cannot book the points until 60 days before your arrival. If you are going back in Oct. you can start booking in Aug. These points cannot not be banked, the points can be rented out either you make the ressies or transfer to another member if you cannot use them (the points will still be holding points if you transfer them). Unless if these points were banked once before, then you would not be able to transfer . I am not sure if DVC would waive the one time waive, its very rare that DVC waives the ressies and restores your points. Just keep in mind when these points expire, they will expire at your end of your use year. In any case holding points cannot be banked.
you have to use them before the points expire.

Thanks for response. MS told me that holding points are NOT transferable (these are not banked points). Did I get incorrect advice from MS?

Hi, Jim,
Wish I could. My mom is having surgery the day after we get back and I will need to stay with her until she is strong. I guess that I will be making my first visit to the rent/trade scene! A new adventure!

Jean,

Sorry to hear your mom is having surgery, I hope it all goes well. You should be able to handle the rent/trade scene. I have rented to several people. Hope your trip goes well.

Jim.

To the best of my knowledge, that is correct. I believe only regular use year points can be transferred to another member. The following points cannot be transferred: Banked Points, Borrowed Points, Holding Points, Reservation Points.

The super secret one time exception is just that. On occassion, MS has granted a once in a lifetime exception to certain banking requirements. I believe most of those have been allowing someone to bank points past their normal banking deadlines.

I don't know if they make a one time exception to bank points in any other category, such as holding points, since they're not regular allocation points. You can only call and ask.
