What is the ONE thing you would change about DVC, DVC rules?

I didnt realize they could stop allowing banking/borrowing. Learn something new every day here

Yes, they can suspend it or change the % if it’s because there is an issue.

It’s one of things that some believe DVC might do in the last few years of the contracts.

I would love it if they converted some of the moderate resorts to DVC. They’ve done it with resorts like Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge so I don’t see why they couldn’t do it with Caribbean Beach & Port Orleans etc. Hopefully one day 🤞🏼

I get that there needed to be a near equilibrium, and only Disney knows what that balance is, but if I borrow points and then cancel the trip, isn't that the same as never having made that reservation at all? How do those points contribute to an imbalance of they are moved back to the original use year? Seems like they'd cause more of a problem by forcing them into the previous use year. What am I missing?

Steve

Because the currently allow people to bank 100% of their points because people borrow points at the same time.

Remember, number of rooms is finite. Let’s say there are 100 rooms and to book them all, you need 1000 points.

When people bank, you now take one of those 100 rooms using points that were tied to that room the year before.

There is only a spot because someone else moved their points forward by borrowing to take the room from the year of your points.

If everyone banks and returns borrowed points, too many points for rooms.

And, when someone cancels the room, it leaves it open and there may not be anyone who can use it because they banked points already because someone tied up the room with borrowed points.

How do those points contribute to an imbalance of they are moved back to the original use year?
I don't think they are moved back. Borrowed points are borrowed, period.

I am not 100% sure about that---Wyndham does move them back, and sometimes I get the two mixed up.

However, banking and borrowing do not need to balance perfectly, because breakage exists (and is probably more significant than we think.)

@lowlight and @xdan0920 will likely stop by here and say eliminate walking.

Just a crazy guess.
Actually no. Walking, while extremely aggravating, wouldn’t be my one change.

My one change would be to eliminate any form of commercial renting. Including using a 3rd party website to rent your points.

Id also really crack down on anyone engaging in a pattern of rental activity. Aka renting every year. Renting a large percentage of your points. Renting multiple reservations in a year.

That would be my “change”

Bring on the tower at Coronado and French Quarter. Those two specifically I’d totally be okay with it

Well, it seems like the updated transfer rules with the elimination of owners being able to transfer more than once between their own memberships was done as a step.

Still learning all the ins and out of DVC as a new member, but I am an experienced traveller to Disney so mine would be that rooms are ready no later than 4pm! Nothing worse than spending the whole day traveling only to have to wait until 5...6....or even 7pm to have your room ready!

100% agree with this. They should technically be ready by per the terms I think. It's rather ridiculous if they are not.

This is a good idea. I mean most people are booking and canceling and Im sure they know that, why not just eliminate the extra step.

Yes. This would helpful

Chat wont populate for me if I am on my VPN.
It doesn't populate for me either and I'm not on a vpn so weird

I totally agree. On purpose. They want more contracts purchased. Nope. Can't do, not wise for me.
Yes because if you don't keep track of it yourself (which we shouldnt have to) then very easy to forget how many you actually have and they could expire. Why can't we transfer them back if we don't use it?

Same here hasn't happened to me yet but so ridiculous that It can, I would be furious

DVC can make those rules whatever they want as long as they make sure things work.

So, if someone wants the change, they can certainly suggest it.

I would like an explanation on how they “honor” room request. Like, what is their hierarchy? When the reservation was made? When the room request was submitted? When someone checks in? A home resort owner vs someone who transferred into the resort at 7 months?
My hope is that home resort owners get priority and also when you book your ressie.

I'd like to have home resort advantage. I think certain room catagories should be reserved for owners who actually stay at their home resort. As a OKW owner I get aggravated to see people who are renting points get prime locations (hospitality house) I think renters shouldn't get priority over anyone. I get that someone "owns" the points being rented, but limitations should be placed on location.

I don't see why it's so difficult for them to research who is a commercial renter, someone who has a buttload of points who rents them all out for 3 years or more or rents out a majority for longer is a red flag. They should be flagged and patterns should be watched. Someone "normal", especially when they buy a new contract, it's because they want/need more points most likely for their upcoming vacations not just rent it year after year right away. Renting should be used as a "you know what we've done Disney for the past two years, let's go somewhere else this year and then continue with Disney the following year." Punishing regular families by limiting their transfers is not the way. When Disney wants to crack down on things they do.
