for example when you were a child or even an adult , what ways did they embarrass you

i will start

i was walking in with two of my friends and she was singing Daniel Beddinfield - i got to get through this full blast .

The first time I camped out for concert tickets. I was 19, fully grown. There I was trying to act cool (extra cool because it was U2 tickets I was camping out for), when all of a sudden here come my Mom and Dad across the parking lot walking my puppy. They brought me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a Coke. They loved me, and that was showing they loved me, but my 19 year old self wanted to sink through the asphalt and die.

When driving, and sorry this is gross, my mom would always pick her nose. We did not have tinted windows in the front. I think she thought we did. It was mortifying.

All three of my girls, my Mom and I went to see The Pacifier years ago. In the beginning there are a bunch of buff Navy seals coming out of the water. My Mom is a sucker for all things Navy and all things manly men related. She made the loudest "mmmhhh" sound possible in a quiet theater! To this day my girls will make that noise when they see a good-looking guy, of course, very quietly and not where anyone but one of us can hear :)
Also, when we were little we were at Disneyworld and we were watching the parade and Mom got so silly/excited when Pooh came walking by. My sister and I about died of embarrassment(we were 8 and 10). My Dad fussed at us to leave her alone and let her have her own good time!

I introduced my parents to one of my good college friends. He was offered some food, including mixed nuts that were sitting out. I indicated that he was allergic to nuts. My dad promptly threw one at him. I assume my dad thought this was funny. My dad is not a nice person.

My dad has done many similar things to embarrass me over the years, but this is the one that keeps getting brought up at parties. Basically whenever said friend's allergy gets mentioned.

My parents have both passed on, but only my mom would embarrass us. My dad was a saint to put up with her. She was not a particularly nice person, often spoke her mind and said mean things when she should have held her tongue. When she was older and in assisted living she would make racist comments to her aides.

I grew up in the 80s, and in a few places I'd see "recording studios". Anybody could pay a small fee, and sing their favorite song, and walk away with a cassette tape of the recording. One night, the family went to an indoor mini-golf establishment, and they had one of these studios. I decided to sing Bon Jovi. It was bad, but I didn't realize how bad it was at the time. I was alone in the booth, while my mom was outside with the technician. Apparently they all got a kick out of it, thought it was hilarious. The technician asked my mom if they could broadcast me over the PA system for the entire building! She said yes. I stepped out when I was done, and what felt like hundreds of people had gathered around to see who was singing. If I remember right, they all clapped. But I was so embarrassed I went back into the booth until they went away.
After that, people would come to the house, and the cassette would get played. The tape eventually disappeared, and to be honest, I don't know what happened to it, although I got the blame.
Decades later, I still hear about it. Family members cannot hear Living on a Prayer, without thinking of me.

We went through a phase with DS where it seemed like our very existence :o embarrassed him. I guess I had it coming because I felt exactly that way as a bratty teen. Sorry Mom & Dad. :littleangel:

I used to make my mom drop me off a block away from any function, so you’re not alone.

It was not her in particular, but parents in general were just so not cool when I was a teen.

Thankfully my kids seem ok with my presence for the most part!

My parents were never really embarrassing for myself or my younger brother. My older brother on the other hand, got all of it from them haha. He was the 'bad' kid of the three of us. Two main things I remember (he is 9 years older so I was pretty young during his bad years) are if he would miss the bus to middle or high school, my mom would be frantic trying to rush and drive him to school while not being late for dropping the rest of us off and getting to work. To embarrass him for it, we would all roll down the windows and yell how much we loved him while dropping him off at the doors. She also crashed a party to find him one night. He snuck out so she found out where the party was and busted in. He ended up jumping out a window and falling asleep in a random bush while running away.

It was the late 80’s and 4C iced tea mix has commercials that at the end someone asked where the dog was and the answer was something like “he’s calling Guam.”

So, I had my first boy/girl party in 8th grade. Someone used my phone in my bedroom and hit the pre-programmed speed dial to call 911. I made my parents stay in their bedroom during the party, but I was in over my head at that point, so I went in to tell them what happened and ask for help. I told them to be cool about it. So my dad comes out and chats with the boys and says “we don’t want anyone calling Guam.” I wanted to crawl under a rock. I know it’s not that bad, but to me at the time, it was horrible!
