I would like to hear what are the big differences between Moderate and Value resorts? I just can't seem to to find much of a difference other than a TS and a few more sqaure feet in the floor plan of your room. I was just thinking maybe we should try the moderate resort this coming January but I can't seem to come up with a good reason to pay almost a $1000.00 more for the moderate resort. So I am asking why it would be worth it, before I talk to DH.

The pools at the mods have a slide. That would be the only other major difference. That and the theming is a little more relaxing at the mods. If you are planning to spend a good bit of your time at the parks, I would stick with the values.

The mods do seem much more relaxing and more resort like. I, like you, am struggling with the decision of mod vs value. In my case though, it's only a $300 difference. For $1000, I'd say stick with the value. I know I don't spend that much time at the hotel. $1000 can easily buy food and some gifts for an entire trip.

The moderate resorts have a little bit more relaxed feel to it than the value resorts. The staff are friendly at both of them but I don't see paying that price to stay at the moderate anymore. Value is fine with me, beside your not in your room most of the time anyway..

As Disney hotel prices climbed over the last couple years, I stopped staying at moderates. I think they are simply not worth the money. They don't have balconies, and have exterior entrances. They are even more spread out than the values, and some moderate rooms are very remote to the central part of the resort (like Trinidad South at CBR, Ranchos at CSR, back area of AB at POR, etc). I usually get a far more central room location at values than at moderates. I even perfer the variety of the food courts at the values over the mods. And mods uses buses for everything like the values - no monorails. And mods aren't centrally located to a park (you can't walk to one).

So unless I can get a moderate for under like $115 a night, I won't consider them anymore. They are WAY overpriced at rack rate, in my opinion. Only value or deluxes for me, as I find they are worth the money. :)

The spending limit on the KTTW cards at the Value Resorts is $500 and the limit at the Moderate Resorts is $1000, although not sure how big a factor that is for some and if the limit is reached the Cast Members can rest you're account or something.

Yes, the account can be paid off whenever you want and your charge limit can be reset. I have done that many times.

If you want a more quiet & relaxing value resort with more lush landscaping I would suggest staying at All Star Music.

See this thread for more reasons why I enjoy ASMu so much:

POFQ is not as spread out as the other mods or the values.

POR CBR and CSR are very spread out.

The Values are laid out closer together.

The mods have pool slides, a hot tub and a sit down restaurant (POFQ doses not have a sit down restaurant but shares with POR.

To me there is not much room size difference between a mod and a value.

Here is the layout of a mod.
The bathroom is about the same size as the All Stars but you will have 2 sinks instead of one.

The mod has 54 square feet more than the value.
That means if both the mod and the value room were 27 feet long than the mod would be 2 feet wider. Just enough room for a double sink instead of a single.

There is not a lot of room size difference to me.

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard:

Thanks for explaining it better then I did because my family and I have never needed to do that, which is why I was not sure how the process works when you reach the limit on you're KTTW card.

We stayed at a Value Resort last time, and it was fine. Most of the time, you're not spending much time at the hotel anyway.

We're staying at AKL next time, so we'll probably be spoiled for all future visits!

I find the values much more relaxing and I do really appreciate that they have actual luggage service at the mods. That alone is worth quite a bit to me since we always seem to have so much stuff.

If this is your 1st trip to WDW and you are not go to stay around the
Resort very much and you don't mined Giant Icons, More Noise or Crowded
public areas, One bus stop, I'd say stick with the Values.

As for the MODs,
The Grounds are just Beautiful with plants and nature (No Giant ICons)
There are very good TS Restaurants in each and CS are good also.
It's so nice to come back to that calm setting after a long day at the Parks (so relaxing). They also have Hot Tubs. If you want to take a little down time and relax a bit on your Vacation I would definately say stay at a MOD.

Others correct me if I am wrong, but don't the mods include a fridge in the room rate (vs. need to rent one as an extra at a value if you want it)? I didn't see this mentioned yet.

Personally, I have been perfectly happy at a value, but if the fridge price is a factor for you, it would make the difference less.

Nope, all of the mods come with fridges in the room! The mods are gorgeous and sooo relaxing! Definately feels like a more luxurious vacation in a mod as opposed to a value!:thumbsup2

Just wanted to ask: Have you looked at pictures of the different resorts? The difference between the types is obvious when you see what they look like!

Mods also have indoor lounges Except I can't remember there being one at CBR but maybe i missed it .

That is pretty much the difference.
Fridge
Double Sinks
Theming

The counter service restaraunts are good at both. I would definately not spend the extra $1000 to stay at a mod. Really not worth it.

This will be our 3rd time at Disney. The first time 12/05 was off-site 2/07 we stayed at Pop. And as of right now we have reservations at Pop in 1/08. We had a great time at Pop, we did not have even one complaint. When we started planning this years trip, DH said let's do Pop again because he liked it so much. ( he is my BIG kid) We had pool side in the 60's Building which was also a stone throw from the hub of everything. It is me that would like to try one of the moderate resorts. But after reading some of your reply's I now can say the value is the way to go for our family. We don't need a fridge, yes it would be nice. But there was never a time last year that we wished we had one. The grounds around the resort might be nicer in my mind, but I think the girls really loved all the BIG i-cons. I would never really enjoy the hot tub anyway, because of the girls. They would want to go in with me. (which would not be to relaxing).
The 2 things I would love though is a coffee pot in the room.( I am a big coffee drinker) and the second would be having a TS restaurant on site. After a long day it is nice to be waited on.
Thanks to all for all the great info.
Pop here we come! (Maybe with the money we will save on not staying in Moderate we could use to come back next year in October for the party)I think that is what we will stick with till the day we can afford one of the deluxe resorts. My dream stay would be at one of the resorts with the Monorail. Hopefully sooner than later.
Thanks again!
