What is the difference between ice cream and dairy dessert?

This is a silly question. A few weeks ago I brought some regular klondike ice cream bars and what I thought were klondike ice cream sandwiches. when I got home the package actually said "dairy dessert" not ice cream.

Today at the supermarket, there was a sale on Edy's ice cream. I got 1 gallon of regular vanilla but my container of cookie dough said "flavored dairy dessert"

What the heck is dairy dessert? Can I correctly assume it's not ice cream?

In the United States, FDA standards require that ice cream have at least 10% milkfat. There are no regulations on the term "dairy dessert" other than it has some dairy products in it.
