When available, members get a 25% discount (off rack rates for cash reservations at DVC resorts. The reservation must be made through MS. DVC releases rooms for member discounts if it determines that not all of the rooms in the points inventory will be reserved by members for points. No one here knows how exactly they determine that, or how far in advance they do it. We think they use historical data. Member discounts are most frequently available for weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) in the less popular seasons.
Like my nephew, I don't do "extra credit" homework (AKA bonus). (I don't really know the exact difference - I just check both places on a regular basis).
DVC members can get a 25% discount on rooms at DVC Resorts depending on availability when paying cash. Many members use this discount on the weekend to avoid the high point nights.
Now for the bonus: My understanding is that his board is for questions like you just asked. The Community Board is for fun things like Roll Calls, Trip Reports and Single Digit Dances.
I bought into DVC in October and didn't even know about the cash discount - it's nice to be aware of, 25% can make a big difference on those room rates!
I just booked a night at SSR in a 2 bedroom for Tuesday 24th May and they offered me the cash discount price if I didn't want to use the points. It was $430 for one night so used the points, as seemed expensive and we are already staying off site (was booked before we bought DVC in October). When I checked the price of the Disney site it was around the $650 mark. Could not believe how expensive it was and was so pleased I had bought into DVC.
