Over the last 5 years there have been 4 new Super Walmarts built in the general area that I know of. (within 15 minutes driving time) 3 of these 4 are in really nice part of towns and were great to shop at the first year or so. Now you go into any of these and they are just dirty, dingy, yuck. (not to mention the million baskets rolling around in the parking lot at any given time) There are Targets really close to all of these that are actually older and they are MUCH nicer as far as upkeep and cleanliness. Heck, the Dollar Stores are much cleaner than these.

I just don't get it, it's the same customer base it would seem, same neighborhoods, everything - there's always a bunch of people working so why are they so dirty compared to the other stores around? Is it just because people come no matter what so they don't put the time & money back into the stores?

(Don't flame me for shopping at Walmart occasionally...if Target was open later than 10 pm I'd always go there)

Wallmart just gives me the creeps. I live in Boston, but just a few feet into the store and I'm sudenly surrounded by the Clampets (no teeth and all).

I know what you mean. A Walmart near us is downright gross but the Target a few doors down is immaculate. I'm not sure why that is. I'm always suprised that Walmart fares so well. Maybe it's the 24 hour thing?

I just watched a show about Walmart and it's success on Discovery Channell (I think it was Discovery). They big wigs of the company seemed to visit the stores frequently to see that all is in order. Maybe they just don't come to the ones where we live!?

They are putting in a new parking lot at the one near us. Too bad they don't focus more on the inside of the store... :confused3

:rotfl2: At least the rednecks around here have their teeth! :rotfl2: Well, some of them anyways. :rotfl:

We have 5 wal-marts all within a 20 minute radius, I shop them all because I do to wal-mart so much, need a change of scenery once in awhile. So far, none of ours have hit the "ICKY" list yet. The newest one is only a few months old and the oldest one is about 10 years old. We have a Target scheduled to be built by 2007! :cheer2:

All the Walmarts I have been to in the San Jose area are awful. My extended family lives in North Carolina and their Walmart is really nice. :confused3 Here, though, I stick to Target. I love my Target!

Wow, you don't have a Target near you? They really have some nice things. Maybe you will get one. Usually where there's a Walmart, there's a Target nearby. :goodvibes

Our local Wal-Mart is pretty clean. I did recently shop at another one though that was trashed out to the max. I don't know why people go to places like that but it was very crowded.

We have 2 Targets closer to us than a Walmart, so we always go to those. LOVE Target... the closest Walmart is always rather dirty so we avoid it. I don't understand the Walmart love, either.

Maybe all the clean people shop at Target so it stays clean. :rotfl: We are getting a Target in the fall. :Pinkbounc I'm excited about the Target but Walmart does have great prices on cereal and some of the basics.....it's hard not to go and stock up but I never buy their meat. :earseek:

We like going to WAl*MART on Friday nights just for the entertainment value.
That's when all the "Clampets" seem to come down out of the hills for their trip to "town".

Our Wal Mart is gross and disgusting. I have had problems with it for several years. In fact it's when I saw the rat in there, not a little rat the thing was HUGE! Almost everything is behind bars now which sucks if you need anything since there aren't to many workers standing around with keys. We do like to go people watch though there are always some interesting folks there, and interesting fights. Now if we go to a Wal Mart a few miles down the road it is super clean, and the worksers are super nice. I even had a cashier who had someone carry my bags to teh car and help me unload, never would get that in the hometown one. I much prefer target.

I think if they used better lighting and didn't crowd the isles so much, it would look better.

I am also from a small town that only has a Super Wal-mart. The closest Target is 30 minutes from me but they don't carry many grocery items. I do all my grocery shopping at my local Wal-mart. Ours is only 5 years old and they just remodeled. In our town if you want to buy clothes or any hardware items after 8:00 clock your only choice is Wal-mart or driving 20-30 minutes to the next town.

I only go to Wal-Mart if I'm desperate and that's the only store that's open. The one near us now is gross, the one near my old house was gross...at least they're consistent :rolleyes2

Well, I like our local Wal-Mart, but it's clean and the people are helpful. I wonder if it depends on the local manager? I won't set foot in K-MArt, though--those ar ethe stores out here that are dingy and gross and always out of stock.

OTOH, if there was a Target closer, I would LIVE there! As it is, it's ~30-40 minute drive, so it's kind of an "event" (I have a 2yo). I get there about once a month.

Our Wal-Mart doesn't get many "Clampetts", which kind of surprises me, since we live in a rural area and there are certainly plenty around. Maybe I don't shop at the right times? We do get a large Hispanic population, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Mostly families with a lot of kids trying to stretch their $$.

Do you know at that one all the announcements are not made in English at the Wal Mart in LYNN on the Lynn way??

We go to the Wal Mart on 114 in Danvers)?) and I know what you mean. I think to myself there are 2 Wal Marts in Lynn fairly close to the one on 114, but in the general area of this WM there are really no Clampet like sections of town other than the trailer parks on RTE 1. But really how can a couple of trailer parks provide SOO many typical Wal Mart customers. Then I think when I go in there it is really a ego boost!! I am going to be really blunt the FATTEST women in the world congregate there. I am not think nor do I think I am thin BUT when I go there I feel like a size two cover model.
