What is going on with car rental rates?

My mom just sent me an IM. They are trying to get a rental car for a trip to Seattle and a rental car would cost them $600 for 11 days. That just seems way too high. She says it is double hwat they normally pay.

And I just priced one out for Vegas and it seems to be twice as much as it was the last time we were there.

Fuel costs can't be an excuse since we pay that. What's the deal?

I agree...I am rtying to get one for when I am in Disney in Sept and can't find anything under $290. I got a car last year and the year before for $130 for 8 days. I know to expect it to go up from last year but this much!

I got one in October for $160 for 9 days - PM me if you can't find the rate on Mousesavers - it is

national and the priceless vacations contrct id and then I used a coupon on top of that -

Even using national with my Entertainment Coupon and Emerald Club discount, etc. it was STILL double what it has been.

i just made two car rental reservations through national yesterday and both were really good rates.
