I have to get gas to make the move back up to the lake on Friday and believe me, I won't be doing a "fill up"... I'll probably get around a half a tank (takes less than a quarter of a tank to get there - even with the van loaded down) - and once I'm there - well - I'm there.. It's really crazy..

I passed a station on my way to work in Boca Raton, FL showing $3.91 for regular. I'm sure that will be up 4 or 5 cents by the time I go home. ::sigh::

Thought you might like to know the cost of gas where I live in the UK. Currently it is £1.40 ($2.31) for ONE LITRE !!! That equates to £6.37 ($10.52) a UK gallon. US gallons are slightly smaller than UK gallons so for a US gallon at UK prices it would cost me £5.31 ($8.77). Its getting critical and driving around now in the UK is more a luxury these days. I've even turned down a job purely because it would cost me a third of my wages just to get there and back every week.

US gallons are slightly smaller than UK gallons so for a US gallon at UK prices it would cost me £5.31 ($8.77). Its getting critical and driving around now in the UK is more a luxury these days. I've even turned down a job purely because it would cost me a third of my wages just to get there and back every week.

Man that sucks. I had to turn a job down too for that reason. Yoo high a cost for travel.

On the Today show this morning, they said gas could go as high as $6 per gallon this summer. My dh is looking into telecommuting from work or trying to carpool with me.

We are very lucky on gas at my house.

I have a company car, with gas card, so no cost for that.

DW is a USPS postal carrier and is reimbursed for her mileage on the route.

I posted in earlier in the thread that we are up to about 5.22 a gallon. We did the math and we will do a weekly trip over to the reservation in NY state (about an hour and half round trip) and fill one gas can that we are allowed to bring. Plus we will get our weekly milk and bread and eggs (which are about half the cost they are here). The savings from doing that once a week will save us close to 600 dollars at the current prices. That is a huge savings for our Disney trip (souvies, tips, etc.).

Curious, how much do you drive over there? I drive 200 miles/week and my wife drives 250 miles/week just to get to work. Then there is the grocery shopping, and taking the kids to school functions (band 1/week, basketball 3 times per week) and any other misc. driving that needs to be done (spontaneous doctor visits which is often through the month with the kids for example.)

Everything is at least 20-25 miles away. We put easily over 2000 miles per month on, nearly that just for work.

Noticed yesterday while I was at a red light (going to dollar tree for easter stuffins..) that the two gas stations on that corner were 3.92 & 3.94 / gallon for regular.

Luckily, I can walk to work, which is our local high school, from my house. My daughter goes there too so in that respect I'm lucky. I am a single mum so travelling expenses to work only applies to myself but then there is only one wage coming in. However, kids at our school can travel as far as 6 - 10 miles. The job I turned down was a teaching post in a school with an 80 mile round trip so that would be 400 miles a week. We also use our cars for shopping and running the kids around for their activities, doctors etc. I live in a semi-urban town where things are relatively nearby but in the rural parts of the UK, like you, the nearest shop can be 20 - 25 miles away and you find that the gas is even dearer in these places - the people who are reliant on their cars pay the highest prices .

We're at 3.89 here.

If it goes to $6 its going to kill us. DH drives on average 30,000 miles per year between his main job, his second job as a professor and his friday commute 4 hrs each way to take classes for his PHD. He is 2/3 through the program and we cant sell our house and move for just one year nor would we want to pull our kids from our great school district. He can't teach full time without PHD so we are stuck.

Only thing we can do is switch to electric heat. Right now we have oil and it went from 1000 yr to 4000 in the last 6 yrs. At least with the electric company we can spread out the payments with oil its all upfrount. We went without heat in half our house for last 6 weeks beacuse I just couldnt stand the thought of another $600-900 bill (we have a minimum we have to buy). Never thought we would still have nights in the 30's the last week of April.

Getting to be work will be one thing. All those in the North East that depend on heating oil are really going to struggle next year.

My jaw dropped yesterday when I drove past a gas station that had $4.37 per gallon for regular gas on their sign!!!

CT has the highest taxes on gas in the country (I'm pretty sure) and the governor is talking about raising them again!!!

There are no gas stations in any of the 5 boroughs of NYC that's less than $4 a gallon, according to the local news. They tell us to expect $5 by the 4th of July. I realize this thread is really just for posting prices, but I have to say the gas prices are causing serious budget problems for many people here where I live. If it really goes to $5 a gallon, people are going to be in trouble. Mass transit isn't cheap here. And in lower cost of living areas of the country, I know the incomes there aren't accommodating the rising gasoline prices. I know I'm rambling, but I'm truly worried about this.

Anyway, the lowest here in Brooklyn NYC that I've seen as of today is $4.09 at Rio gas station, which is basically a no-name brand. regular brand stations like Shell, Mobile etc are $4.12 that I've seen. Forget about Manhattan.
