I'm at the very very early stages of planning our wedding, so early that I haven't decided where I want to have it.

Really there are two options that I can see (there are millions of options of course, but these 2 are the ones I'm chosing from)

1. Get married somewhere local - in Australia in other words.

2. Get married at a Disney resort.

Now if we were to go with option 2, it would be a very intimate wedding, most likely just family attending.

My question is this: If we were to have the wedding in the states, would we be expected to pay for flights and accommodation for everyone?? Or just flights, or just accom? Or neither???

What is everyone's opinion? Or what other suggestions can you think of??

Thanks.

I think it depends on what type of wedding you want, big or small. We had to make the same decision b/c we wanted a DW. but not everyone could afford to come. And we could not afford to help all of those that we wanted there. So thats how we made our choice.

As for paying for flights & hotels...I would say talk with your family and see what they can afford. Then go from there.

Good luck, either way it will be fun & pretty.

well me and my soon to be df are coming from the uk and having only close family attending (just brothers and sisters and mums and dads). we are asking them to pay for flights and hotels as we are paying for the wedding ourselves and can't afford to pay for everybody.

We thought about maybe buying them their park tickets, a few dinners and of course some welcome bags. i see it as a holiday for everybody but we are choosing the destination:rolleyes1

im going to try and make personalised park maps for them so that they go on the stuff that they would really enjoy. also do a handy hints sheet for things like fast passes and try and book some restaurants for them. i think if i can make it as stress free as possible for them then it would be more appealing.

i wouldn't stree too much- its your day so do what you would like.

oh and check out the swan weddings- the price is about half of what you pay if went through disney so it might free some money to spend on your family

Ok If you want a small intimate wedding then go with Disney....if you want the big wedding then have it at home.

No you do not have to pay for your guests to go there and stay there.

Not too many brides on here pay for flights/accomadations for their guests. Although, if it can be afforded that would be nice for the guests. Some people rent a larger off property location so everyone can stay there. Or a grand villa at one of the DVC's to help keep the cost of staying down a little. Good luck with your decision!!!

We're coming over from the UK as well and all our guests are paying for themselves, and none of them have had a problem with it. We just made it clear that they were very welcome to come, but we completely understood if they didn't want to/couldn't afford it. I think paying for the wedding is enough, and we are providing an open bar to say thanks (which they are all very pleased about!!!)

Thanks everyone, this is just what I wanted to hear! :rotfl:

Well, I'm going to put it at the top of my list then, and work out some prices...

My parents will probably be happier with this decision, then having to pay for the wedding themselves.
