Hello, hope i'm posting this in the right place, didn't know where else on here would be suitable for this question!!

My question may sound a little silly coming from a 28 year old but as I quite often get stopped and asked for ID when im out (mainly in clubs) I didnt want to risk not having anything with me just in case! Whilst i'm glad I have youthful looks I certainly dont want to have to miss out on all those delicious sounding cocktails!! ;)

Didn't really want to have to take my passport out with me, just in case i lose it, but if I have to I will. Would a British provisional drivers license be ok? Less chance of losing that as it just fits in my purse (unless i lose that!!) :lmao:

As a rule, a passport would be your safest bet, but I know carrying that around definitely is not the ideal situation.

1) A government issued photo ID is fine.
2) But, I would carry a color photocopy of your passport.

NOTE: When I travel, I leave my passport in the hotel safe and carry photocopies. I have never had the xerox copy denied anywhere, in any country.

Here is the definitive answer from the state legislature of Florida, Title XXXIV, Chapter 562.11 - Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Beverage Law: Enforcement...

"...the appearance of the person was such that an ordinarily prudent person would believe him or her to be of legal age to purchase or consume the alcoholic beverage and if the licensee carefully checked one of the following forms of identification with respect to the person: a (Florida) driver's license, an identification card issued under the provisions of s. 322.051 or, if the person is physically handicapped as defined in 2s. 553.45(1), a comparable identification card issued by another state which indicates the person's age, a passport, or a United States Uniformed Services identification card, and acted in good faith and in reliance upon the representation and appearance of the person in the belief that he or she was of legal age to purchase or consume the alcoholic beverage."

I know, being a licensee in Texas, that we also require original passports for most guests from abroad in lieu of a state ID or driver's license. We cannot accept copies. You may have success with your driver's license, but if you want to be 100% safe you may wish to plan on using your passport.

Thanks for your replies, very much appreciated. It's not the ideal of situations but if I need to carry my passport im gonna have too! Just have to be extra careful with my bag!

I was ID'd at 29 at WDW (plus in the summer in Vegas when I was 32!!) every time I used my UK picture drving licence which was OK (I needed to point out where the date was several times but that was fine.) I didn't carry my passport around with me, not a great idea really!

My DD age 26 used her Canadian driver's licence this past October...we were at WDW, Universal and a cruise and that is all she ever used...I wouldn't want to take a chance on losing my passport..I'd rather skip the drink:thumbsup2

At least it's not just me then!! Good to know your driving licence was ok to use! Think i'll try that instead and if it's not accepted i'll just have to live with it!! And I won't have to keep checking my bag to make sure my passport is still in there!!

In the US, a driver's license is what is typically shown for ID. I can't see a reason for needing your passport, if your license has a photo of you and your birthdate. :)

International Driver's Licenses tend to be fine, provided they have your picture and your date of birth. Also, it helps if they are in English, but that shouldn't be a problem for you!

It's what we tend to use in the UK too, just didn't know how strict it was gonna be in America for ID and what is accepted!

Thanks again for all the replies, you've all been a great help. :thumbsup2
