Shorthand for reservation. On these boards you will run into many shorthand or abbreviated words. Acronyms are especially cryptic but as you have discovered all you need do is ask and someone will be happy to decipher it for you.

I agree as well. It is baby-talk. At least type Res instead of Reservation. About the only thing worse is "puter" when people refer to their computer.

You've got to be kidding me.
There are tons of abbreviations used all over these boards. I use the word "ressie", and yes, I could spell out the entire word. But, you could say the same thing about every single abbreviation on the boards.
I also don't understand how this sounds like baby talk. I pronounce it "rezzie", and I don't usually hear babys over emphasizing their Z's.

I think the silly part is coming here to poke at people for using a bit of shorthand. Perhaps things or abbreviations some of you use bother us, but we don't start a thread about it.

And yes, when I go to dinner I usually start with an appy.

I'm very glad this question was posted, because I have a really hard time with abbreviations on this site. When I found this site, I had to skip some of the trip reports because I couldn't understand most of it. So I'm always relieved when someone else is as clueless as I am!

Well, I'd advise those of you who don't like "ressie" to stay away from the Brits. They make pictures into "picsies", a postman into "postie", slippers are "baffies", a sausage is a "banger", an umbrella is a "brolly", rubber boots are "wellies", etc. I could go on and on.

Aye, it would be a wonderful world if we all spoke exactly alike, lest we annoy anyone.

I don't mind any of the British-isms - I think they are charming and delightfully "foreign", without being indecipherable by the average American. But if you're not British, they irritate me!!! Just my personal opinion...

It does seem that some of the folks on the DIS boards are easily irritated. The concept is communication and if I understand what a poster is trying to say, then as Mr. Bush says "mission accomplished"!

I know, I know...it's silly, but it still irks me. But, then again, I hate the shortening of the Polynesian to the Poly. So, obviously, ressie (rezzie), appy, all that is going to irk me. Is it earth stopping? No, but an irritant nonetheless. Normally, I don't verbalize my being irked, but since CC asked, and it would seem there are other, kindred souls out there, I just wanted to be counted among those who don't care for the current state of our language. But, there are plenty of people out there who like them, I would go so far as to say that they actually enjoy them!!! Far be it from me to prohibit anyone from communicating in their own style. Have at it...it's not nearly enough to argue about, at least not for me.
