Just curious. I was on Petfinder.com and several dogs were listed as Cell dogs.

They were trained as part of a prison work program.

Can you list one here, so I can see the context? Maybe it is part of a prison program where inmates help dogs (obedience training) to make them more adoptable. We have such a program in our county.

I don't know for sure, but I remember there being a series on cable for awhile called "Cell Dogs." Prison inmates trained dogs to be service dogs or helped rehabilitate them so they could be adopted. It was good therapy for the inmates and the dogs.

OK, but does that mean anything good or bad as a potential dog to adopt?

Thanks!

It's a good thing. It means they had dedicated obedience training.

I think it would be fine. Surely, you would be able to find out some background on the dog. If you see one that interests you, see what you can find out. And be sure to report back! ;) :teeth:

I would say it's a good thing. Depending on the program the dog will have obedience skills (sit, lay down, etc.) as well as house trained, leash trained and should know voice and hand commands.

I had interest in this one untilI got to the bottom of the ad.... they won't adopt her out to families with kids under 8. Well, and that she should not really be placed with another dog....

But it sounds like a cell dog is a good thing.... so I will keep looking.

Ooohhh, she looks so much like my Gypsy! She's a lab mix too and was also "dumped". The face and head are just like hers. Gypsy is such a sweetie and loves to play with our Chihuahua (which he loves too). It's pretty funny when she's playing with him and something else diverts her attention and she just holds him down under her "arm" while she looks around. :lmao:

This is another dog I like. I just spoke to the place where she is located. We hope to arrange a meeting this week. And the rescue who has her says they could hold her until after our Disney trip next week. This one is not a cell dog.

Francicvale had a great reputation. They are in the Radnor area, correct?
We once knew someone who adopted two dogs from their and couldn't say enough good things about them.

Keep us posted. You are doing a great thing adopting. Too many homeless pets in the world to be buying.

My ex-H recently adopted a greyhound that had been in racing and more recently was a cell dog. He hasn't had any problems yet other than the fact that the dog is apparently used to going out for his evening "constitutional" around 3:30 a.m. and he's losing a lot of sleep. Their yard isn't fenced yet and he's gotta get up, put the coat on the dog and walk him. LOL

I wonder if the inmates teach the dogs to "fetch" - wallets, purses, gold necklaces, diamond rings...

I'm Sorry, the first thing that came to mind was "Something a paramecium would walk." :lmao:
