Has anyone done this recently? What were your thoughts?

It seems a bit high on the price but I am splurging a bit on this trip. I've done and will again do Sangria University, how does it compare? As someone who already knows a lot about spirits and the process to make them, etc, is this something that might bore me?

I'm trying to see if it is worth the cost, but it is hard to qualify, since everyone is different and has a different view. What were the highlights for you if you've done this experience?

I wrote a very nice post to this thread yesterday, and when I was almost finished it hit me: Coach isn't asking about my experience at La Cava, he's asking about something called "La Cava Experience!" :scratchin Is there a link to something with a description of the product and the price? That might help a bit:)

And even though you didn't ask, my first experience at La Cava was last week and it was meh, wouldn't bother going again.

I appreciate the comment, regardless! Here is a link to the experience: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/epcot/cava-experience/

What did you not like about going to La Cava? I've been in there a couple of times but never hung around. I liked the corn old fashioned.

I haven't done it for years but really enjoyed it. Number of participants can vary (some wind up with a private experience) but even if you have whatever the max number is, it's still a pretty intimate experience with plenty of opportunity to interact with the host and ask questions. I found it very interesting how the taste can vary when smelling different things first and I always appreciate guacamole. And couple small souvenirs (
pin and small cup
) are a nice touch. I just read this summary from a trip this past fall that I think is a nice overview:

Editing to add, they used to hold the experience in La Cava itself while other customers were in and it was hectic. It's now in La Hacienda de San Angel across the walkway, which is otherwise closed, and it's very quiet and calm.

I've also done Sangria University and enjoyed it. Many more participants at Sangria University and you really don't get much opportunity to ask the host questions. No souvenir I can think of other than a cute photo opp. Some significant downtime while they come around ask what ingredients you want to build your sangria.

I did it last year and enjoyed it immensely. I'm very well versed in the process of making Whiskey and Beer specifically and I did not find it boring at all. It's more about the tasting and evaluating of tequila specifically. They pair a number of unique smells and tastes with 5 different tequilas (Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, Extra Anejo, and Joven) and a Mezcal. Also the host Humberto is FANTASTIC. He clearly loves what he does and his enthusiasm rubs off. I would highly recommend it.

If you have other specific questions I am happy to answer.

We love the La Cava Experience so much that we’ve done it twice! We learned so much about the complexity of tequila and how to enjoy it. I was hesitant going into our first time because I wasn’t a tequila fan, but I was shocked how the techniques made it palatable and now I’m a tequila lover - anejo? yes, please! We have Humberto both times, and he is amazing, very passionate and knowledgeable. We’d actually do it again. Sangria University is also really fun, but it’s only offered on Sat/Sun (unless this has changed). We didn’t really learn a whole bunch, but our group was really fun. I came away with a buzz from sangria university but did not with the La Cava Experience.

I did it a few years ago and loved it, but mine was also a different experience. I was inside La Cava del Tequila, at one table, and ended up with a private experience because I was the only person who booked for that time slot. It was also $20 cheaper at the time. So I paid less money and had an hour of one-on-one time with the tequila expert in what I think is a more immersive location. I'm not if the new experience compares, but I do want to try it on a future trip.

Now that would be really cool!

I’m still on the fence but leaning toward “why not?” If I cut a few table service meals it’ll even out.

I would personally consider tequila tasting followed by some tacos or empanadas at the Mexico quick service locations on the same level with a nice signature meal, plus the unique factor. Even with the changes, I will still try it again in a few years.

We’ve only done it at La Hacienda, but our first experience was just my son and me and it was fantastic.

Interesting, I’d heard from random internet reviews over the years La Cava Experience can hit a bit hard booze wise and so I’d been weary of booking it.

My kid really wanted to do it (he’s a fermentation scientist major), and I was super-leery that I would hate it and be too buzzed to enjoy Epcot. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Now the special margarita you get when it’s over did start me on the tipsy path.
