What, in your opinion, would make BLT less "sterile"?

This is precisely why we appreciate the ability to visit other resorts. It is nice to be able to tailor the trip to the mood. So far though each trip we take confirms BLT is home for us, but we do like to venture out occasionally.

The heart likes what the heart likes. We have 2 trips in 2018 booked at BLT (11 mo window), and we are unlikely to switch at 7 months. We are actually happy with that, which confirms that we made the right choice. And we just bought at VGF, which has Theming.

I have to admit, though, if there were a way to make the rooms Jetsons-like "contemporary" and still maintain a deluxe feel, I would love to try it.

Haha. I could go with that. You could add a 'Rosie' in rooms and make them Concierge. :)

My wife and I are planning to stay there in the next couple years and are really hoping to find it less sterile than when we walked through it this past summer.

We love being able to walk places, so BLT is high on our list for a second home. However, on a hot, miserable, long day we walked through the resort and it didn't speak to us...I was bummed. I'm hoping to explore the resort more next Christmas and get a better vibe, especially if we go through when we aren't miserable with 2 tired kiddos!

I say all this so that people can chime in with what they think isn't sterile so I can talk my wife into adding on there!

I’d be totally down for a Jetsons-like “contemporary,” especially if it came with a food-a-rac-a-cycle!

Since I was a kid....many years ago, I've always liked the Contemporary. I've stayed at BLT once, though I own at the Polynesian. I just like the feel of the Contemporary, but do agree the pool was lacking.

As a BLT owner, I hope they spend no money on re-theming at all. It matters not the slightest to us and I don't want to collectively pay for it. I have no issue with BLT's current design. Some people want something particular and Disney provides them lots of options at the other resorts. Win, win. Nothing needing fixing here.

On our past trip this Dec. we stayed at BRV, BLT, BWV AND Cabana Bay and I loved the theming of all (Universal's theming blows Disney out of the water - we've stayed at Royal Pacific and Portofino too, but you can't beat Disney for everything else). Once you get out of the lobbies of all these resorts, into the hallways and even into the rooms, the theming is not really in your face for any. Actually, I would say that the theming of the hallways and rooms of BRV and BWV (and SSR and GF, where we've also stayed in the past) are pretty similarly old-fashioned or neutral at least - in my mind, BLT actually sticks out for best theming and is in no way sterile with the colours, curved hallways, lighting fixtures and even door-number signage. What I think is more important in resorts and themes, is the floor plan and organization of each guest room - TBH this stay at BLT (and we are owners here) was my least favourite as I found the room, in comparison, to be the least smartly-designed for my family of 4...and those studios get smaller as my children get larger every time we visit! It was also pretty dusty and in need of some repair which we pointed out to guest services in an email. In the end, in the mind of my family, location trumps all and that is why we will go back every year to BLT and probably BWV so we can walk to 3 out of 4 parks!

Ok, I'm probably one of those people who called it sterile :P But I also like AoA's over the top character theme, which a lot of people hate. So everyone has their different tastes :-)

I don't think BLT lacks theming per se, I think it's more that the theme is modern/sleek/minimalist. So, for me, when I compare it to VWL, AKL, BWV, Poly, etc... those have a lot more character and make me feel like when I leave the parks, I have a totally different vacation that I'm coming back to, and feels very different from most other non-WDW hotels. BLT feels a bit more like the standard convention hotel (to me at least).

Non-theming related, one of the things I dislike about BLT is how big it feels and how disconnected it is from the main building. Some of this may be that I don't know my way around compared to other resorts, so I've gotten lost a few times :-) I admit, I've gotten lost in BWV before too!

As someone else mentioned, I do like that BLT has Mickey artwork, and other hidden Mickeys. Having just come back from a stay at the Disneyland Hotel, if I were to redo/add to the BLT theme, I would make it filled with hidden Mickeys and tributes to classic WDW/Walt. However, a lot of the amazing touches in the DL Hotel they obviously wouldn't put into a DVC unit--Mickey shaped faucet handles, hidden Mickey lamps, the incredibly magical headboard :-) But I think they could still add some classic Disney/Mickey touches in BLT to give it a bit more character.

Now that I'm looking at adding my MK-area resort, I'm leaning towards Poly, but funny enough I'm considering BLT too. I agree with you, the views of the MK area, even if you don't have a theme park view, really make you feel like you're on a Disney vacation.

.

This is what I question - why not? They used to do much more of this and IMO still should. Now they skip having fun with the rooms in the refurbs and go all Holiday Inn.

Although small, I like the BLT studios. I like the shelving, the real kitchen area, although I usually do not stay there long enough to put things in the shelves.

Actually I like BLT when I am there, my least favorite aspect is the pool, not large or deep enough IMO.

As an owner, I do wish for sheers, especially on level 1!

I was sorely disappointed they did not add sheers to the studios. I am amazed that they gave them to the 1, 2 BRs and not the studios, that means the windows don't all look alike because since the sheers are missing from the studios. And I thought Disney was big on everything outside looking the same. But more than anything, the sheers let in light but cut down on the extra bright and hot sun and a small amount privacy in the evenings while waiting for the fireworks. It is amazing how much you can see into the rooms at BLT from the monorail at night.

How many people do you normally have in a BLT studio?

It is usually just the two of us. However we have had our grandson with us at times.
That is what scares me about BLT studios. It will be my wife and I and our 4.5 yr old and 1.5 yr old. We are a close family, but as they get older I think we will definitely need 1 bedrooms there! I just keep telling myself as soon as we are done paying for daycare for two kiddos we can start adding points!

We bought at BLT because it looked like it did...we just love the look, the whole feel of it and the contemporary, the monorail..its our idea of sci-fi meets Ikea....clean crisp and with that Disney smell.
When you take the time, just walk around and check out all the tiny details, they are there, just not in your face screaming Disney. But as always YMMV, I'm so glad there are resorts for everyone's tastes. Me personally found AKL a bit creepy and I didn't feel comfy there, but to others its heaven on earth:)
I heart our BLT.

Am happy to say I was happy get a Lake View 2 bedroom for this NYE eve 2 night stay! We’ll be with friends, getting on the Dream for an actual NYE cruise!

It would have been nice to get a standard view, but for the 13 extra points it takes, I am fine with lake view. BLT is not my favorite resort, but I love the location, love seeing the special fireworks on the general black out dates. We are 6 adults, who are ready to celebrate the upcoming New Year in style! ( OK, we do have a wait, but we got the room! :yay:)

I loved it there, I felt like I was in Florida on vacation, and not in "the magic" per-say. I liked that feeling.

... this is why we bought a 2nd contract at VGF. So we can bank and get 1BR at BLT (and VGF) all the time. We have a 6 and 2 year old. DH had a mommie dearest moment and decreed no more studios, lol. I was fine in the BCV and VGF studios this summer. VGF costs so many points that I think I would still rather be in a studio there every year than a 1BR every other year.
