The purpose of this Assignment is to get out and have fun using our cameras, maybe learning a few things along the way, so pictures should be new as often as possible (though if you have a relatively new picture that fits a category, you can use it). All cameras and skill levels are welcome.

This could be one that we run for the year. No prizes can be rewarded other than recognition for a job well done!

Where possible, please use pictures taken from 8 October 2014 as the intent of this assignment is to get out and about. However, given that this is running from the start of 2014, if you do have a recent (2013'ish) picture already on file, by all means post it - especially if you would like to share your best pictures taken during 2013!
If you post a picture, please share what you did to take the picture irrespective of whether you shoot with a point and shoot or a dSLR or phone camera. For those with a dSLR, please include your ISO, aperture and shutter speed; as well as a brief description of anything that might help others learn from your experience.

What I'm Focussed On – Blood Moon

This month’s assignment is inspired from the Lunar Eclipse event on the 8th October, 2014. It’s the second (and last) lunar eclipse this year, the first being on 15th April. There are another two lunar eclipses in this current tetrad series….the next two total lunar eclipses in this series of four will be seen on 4 April and 28 September 2015.

This assignment is all about the ‘Blood Moon’. May your skies be clear and may they be filled with dust!

For Melbourne, the eclipse will begin at 8.15pm, total eclipse 9.25pm-10.25pm, eclipse ends 11.35pm.

Please share your shots!

It was anxious shooting in Melbourne tonight. We started out with a 70% cloud cover and I called time after about 2 hours when the cloud cover hit 95%.

I managed to get these.

Very nice WDWMom and Princess! :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately it was raining this morning in my neck of the woods but I'm enjoying these shots.

We didn't have much time in the eastern US, just about when the eclipse was full the moon went below the trees.

^^
Nice shot, BobQ. Did you take that with the Panasonic GX7? WOW!

Very nice PrincessInOz :thumbsup2

Right back 'atcha!

Love your shot with the steeple. It adds so much depth and dimension to it.
I took mine from my back garden. Sadly, there's nothing interesting to focus on. :(

Thanks! Yep, this is from the GX7, DW's G3 photos look about the same. Micro 4:3 has an advantage of getting 2x from the lenses so my 45-175 is actually pretty long. I used to use my Canon 70-200 with a 1.4x but I sold it so now I need a micro 4:3 300 or so.

Lunar Eclipse on 4 April 2015

This was the moon over Melbourne on the 4th April 2015. I got out there later than planned; by which stage, the moon was already more than half-way through to total eclipse.

I think I played around with ISOs of 1600 or 800; f/5.6 or f/4.0; and shutter speeds around 0.5 sec.

We had been promised totality. But this was probably as good as it got. To the eye, it was close...but there was always a sliver of light visible.

I hope that the skies are clear for you!

I got up at 6:30 to see if it was worth going outside but there was full cloud cover and no moon. We weren't going to get a full eclipse anyway and what we got was only going to last about 4 minutes. I hope we have clear skies for the eclipse in September, it is at the more humane time of 9 pm. :)

I took another look at my pictures this morning......and realised that one of the earlier pictures in the set was worth sharing as well. I thought you might appreciate the Red, White and Blue! There really IS such a thing as a Blue Moon.

Just a reminder for those in the Northern Hemisphere. Don't forget that you have an Eclipse and a Supermoon on September 27! I'm so envious! The eclipse cannot be seen in Melbourne. :(

But I look forward to seeing your pictures.
