What if US Airways goes out of business?

What happens to tickets with US Airways if the airline goes out of business? If they pull out of Pittsburgh only, what happens to tickets from there? Will people be rerouted?

Thanks! ;)

Under the law the other airlines must honor the tickets and can charge you something like $25. Expect Chaos. (Did I miss something, is there a specific reason for this or just general concern?)

USAir recently signed a long term lease for 10 gates at PIT. If they do pull out the hub, they will still have some flights. For 10 gates, they must be planning on quite a few. My bet is PIT-MCO will still operate, those flights are always full, they have to be making money on them. Another alternative maybe connections through Charlotte.

I think eventually they will workout a merger. Like American absorbed TWA. I wouldn't worry about it in the near future, stuff like that takes time.

I agree with Debbie that Pitt to MCO will always be there. I am still looking to book my x-mas trip (Dec 24-31) with US AIR if there fares are $225 or less.

If US AIR fares are high I will book with Continental out of Cleveland. It is a nice advantage to be with in 1 hr from 2 airport hubs.::yes::

What's this talk about US airways and out of business? I have a flight booked in May out of Buffalo, are they in some kind of financial trouble?

US Airways successfully emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy around 10 months ago, with a $1 billion financing agreement. But US Airways is still struggling.

According to a January 21 Reuters article:
<blockquote>"Several airline and banking sources have said US Airways is is shopping around some assets, including its East Coast shuttle, its US Airways Express regional jet service and possibly one of its three hubs in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Charlotte, North Carolina."</blockquote>
That doesn't mean they're going out of business, just that they're taking steps to stay in business -- even if it means they'll be a smaller airline.

You are protected if the airline goes out of business. You would be on a different airline and you wouldn't have the same seats but you would still be flying.

The airline is having problems but they aren't close to shutting the doors. Relax and keep planning your WDW trip. :)

Thanks for the reassurance. :) Guess I'll go ahead and book my December tickets within the next few weeks with US Airways - I was going to use Delta, but US Airways non-stop flights have such better times! Thanks again. ;)
