Gift Card use question

I put a debit card down on my room this past January and when I charged things to my room, it came immediately out of my bank account. This was fine and no big deal. But I also paid with gift cards for other things like our LL passes and such. I'm guessing to actually charge to a room, you need to put down a credit card?

I also combine gift cards on Disney's site but I don't leave a card on it when I am done.

Yes, they will pre-authorize charges for credit cards using up your available credit as you go along but they don't actually charge until check-out night. Under no circumstances will they allow room charging without a debit or credit card on file.

Does anyone know if the Cake Bake Shop takes the DGC or should I just charge to room then pay off room with GC?

Again, my first time using the DGCs. Typically, I use my magic band to room or pay with Disney Chase card, etc.

IIRC, I've read on the Cake Bake Shop thread on the Restaurants forum that some people have had trouble paying with GCs as well as with their MBs - can't remember whether no one successful or a "YMMV" situation. So I'm planning to charge to room if I can, and if not I'll pay with a CC there.

I had no trouble using a disney gift card at the Cake Bake shop (restaurant side) a few weeks ago.

Checking the cake Bake thread, it seems the GC problems reported were mostly on the bakery side, although some people were able to use them there.

Thanks for reporting actual experience!

We ate there in October right after it opened as we were there that last week of Oct and into Nov and used our MB with zero issues.

I just didn't know if they didn't take gift cards. I first thought of it because we're taking our middle daughter for her 22nd birthday and at first I tried to make a reservation for food but there was nothing . Then I remembered they use Open Table and not the disney reservation system so that got to me thinking maybe they don't take DGCs either.

Thank you all for your help and confirmations!

Got something on the bakery side and after I paid with my CC, I thought to ask about the DGC and she said yes - so my friend used her DGC to pay for her order. This was during their soft open.

Ok, I have another question on the use of DGCs.

How can you use them to purchase Lightning Lane Multi passes on the app at my 7 day mark?
I've not had to buy LLMP yet. Maybe it works like Mobile Ordering and Mobile Checkout? In those cases, I could select "gift card" as payment and then cut and paste the Gift Card number from where I saved it in my notes app.

Ok you're right.

I'm an annual pass holder so I chose tomorrow just to check and one of the payment options was Disney gift card.

Nice!

I forgot I could check because of my pass.

Thank you!

This may be a stupid question but what is the easiest way to use the electronic gift cards I got from Sam's on black Friday? It feels very strange to not have a physical card in my hand, but then again I am the same person who like to actually hold a book versus a kindle. I'm weird that way

In your situation I would buy a physical card from anywhere in a small denomination.

Then head over to Disneygiftcard.com and transfer the digital ones to the physical one.

Depending on how many digital cards you bought you may need to buy a few small denomination cards as you can only have $1,000 on any DGC physical or digital. Also you can only transfer the entire balance from the card you can’t say I want to split this $50 card in half, you would have to transfer all $50.
