What if I'm 3 points short?

Looking at planning for 2008, and I might be 2 or 3 points short of doing what I want to do... What's the best way to handle that? You can't just add 3 points on a one time basis, right? And I can't imagine you could sort of supplement with cash as that would be a MS nightmare, right? And if we pay for a full night with cash, we'd possible end up losing points that year (maybe only 10 or so, but the thought of losing points drives me crazy...)

So, best to just a post on the renting board or something? Then, would someone call MS to transfer three points from their account to mine and I'd send them like $30? Is it complicated? Hard to do? Wrought with peril????????

Just wondering what others' experiences were like and if anyone has any tips or suggestions.

ps - hope this is the right forum for this sort of question.....

I'm sure you could find someone to transfer a few points to you. I think I've seen it done on the Rent/Trade board before. If I had any extra, I'd be glad to do that for someone!!! (And yes, I think about 10 bucks would be the going rate.)

Borrow from the next year or find someone who would transfer a few points to you.

You could also try for one night on cash through MS. IF weekends are involved, this is likely your best option. If not, borrowing from your next year would be the best option if possible. But renting points to be transferred to you is no big deal and I wouldn't hesitate, especially in the situation involved as there is minimal risk to you.

Is it possible to use just 3 points from a different account? The reason I ask is because I just made reservations this a.m. for a week in Jan. I have two different account numbers. The total reservation was 155 points. One account had only 20 points left in it. I wanted to use the 20 points, then take 135 from the other account. The girl would not let me do it that way. I had to pay for a whole night (22 points) from the same account. She had me borrow 2 points from the next use year and then use 133 points from the other account. I was surprised I had to do it that way. So now I have 2 linked reservations, and hopefully my sister will not have to move for the last night.

That depends on which home resorts the different "accounts" are at an which resort you are trying to reserve. It sounds to me like you need to do a little point usage tutorial. Download Caskbill's planner and start tracking your point that way if the DVC point tracker on the internet confuses you. If you have multilple resorts and multiple use year dates, that will effect what you can do with each contract as well. If you give us a little more information about what you have, we could help you understand better.

If you can't borrow the points from next UY, definitely try the rent/trade board. I was able to rent 2 points and have them transferred in to my account to complete a ressie for next December. Very easy!

The points for a single night MUST be in one account. Having different reservations and linking them is no big deal. BTW, if you do a cruise, DC, CC, etc; all points must be in one account for that also.

Thanks for the info. My accounts are all at BWV, but two different use years, June & August.
