What has Disney removed that makes you the saddest?

I loved the Journey Into imagination with dreamfinder, but what I loved even more was after the ride, all the stuff in the imaginarium, I remember those needle things you could press your hand or face into and it would hold the shape, the symphony area, with the lights shining on different instrument pictures and the faster you moved your hand the faster it would play. Also a be on TV thing, it was the old blue/green screen bit, I remember running away from something on the screen with a bunch of other kids. That was my favorite place and seeing what it is now makes me kinda sad....

Horizons was a big one too, I always rode it 3 times, couldn't leave without doing desert, space AND underwater scenes, plus being able to sit all 4 of us side by side was cool too, best omnimover cars ever in my book.

Wow - this post brought back so many memories!

When I original saw this, Mr. Toad was top of my list (although the kids and I got to ride it in DL last summer - yay!!!) but reading all the post made me remember all my other favs.

- definitely the original Journey to Imagination - I was so excited to take the kids to that a couple years back remembering it so fondly and when we were done - they were so let down. Glad to see my memory of the original wasn't inflated over the years and others loved it too!

- 20,000 Leagues - loved that ride as a kid!

- Honey I shrunk the Audience - I have tried to explain the "rats" to the kids in the past and how the waves of screams came closer to you if you sat toward the back. They don't get my interest - but I loved that show.

- And I do definitely miss the characters just walking the park and surprising you around a corner. The spontaneity of that was always so great.

But bottom line, I still love Disney and can't wait to go again in 61 days!!!

The ability to plan a last minute trip, arrive at the parks, and not being disadvantaged because we did not have all the FastPass idiocy and advanced dinner reservations in our possesion.

I miss 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, I just loved that ride; picking up the phone in the candy store on Main St and hearing a conversation between a mom and daughter; the loss of the Main St bakery to give us a Starbucks, really?(this is a travesty), and Tink flitting about in a dresser drawer in a store in MK.

I guess I can understand updating some rides like the 20k L under the S to remain relevant in todays fast paced world of computer-generated attractions but I don't understand getting rid of some of the little details like the phone that always added to the cachet of being at WDW. It makes me sad, because I don't see how it cost any money to have those little things for visitors to discover.:sad1:

Skyway - my husband proposed to me while riding this back in the mid-'80s...he timed it right to the 10pm fireworks. :)

When candlight procession was held in MK...every year we'd make reservations at Tony's around 9pm timed to the event, sit in their patio area overlooking main street and watch through the glass doors - it was so wonderful. They probably couldn't have it there with today's crowds, but it felt so much less commercialized back then...no $60-80/person dinner packages. Everyone just gathered around, like the parades. I don't even remember big name celebrities narrating it back then, although my memory could be fuzzy on that.

"The old Animation tour in DHS with the Robin Williams and Walter Kronkite video." Definitely miss that...all the more poignant now.

Horizons - still remember that scent of oranges too!

The original world of motion...

Almost forgot...the old fashioned arcade on main street

So much has changed. I went as a kid in '73 and took my kids for the first time in '97. When the castle was a pink cake. We still went back.

Most missed is Adv. Club and Comedy Warehouse. So many fun memories at both.

Many of our most missed favs have been mentioned. Living Statues, Double Decker Bus, Lights of Winter, Beaver Tails, candy artist in Japan in Epcot. Sid Cahuenga's in (MGM) and HS without with awful hat blocking the view. In MK, Mr Toad leaving broke my boys' hearts. The last time we rode it, the CM was so cute....demanding a driver's license and "chasing" us as we went through the double doors. The boys were about 6-7 and thought they were getting away with something!

I asked my 21 and 23 year old sons....they miss Mickey shaped tortilla chips in Mexico, McDonald's fries at each park and the powdered soap in the restrooms.....

I thought I was the only one that missed all the old Epcot attractions. World of Motion, the original Imagination, Horizons, BodyWars, Tapestry of Nationats. I always marvel at how many empty buildings that are there now.

Hollywood Studios - I hate the hat too, not sure how that fit the themeing. I miss the backlot tour with the houses - I got to see the area later as part of the Osborne display but that is all gone now with LMA.

MK doesn't have much that I miss. I wish the Skyway was still there but I understand with the changes in our society why they can't. If people can't keep their hands out of the water at POTC they wi :sad2:ll throw things from the cars - sad but true :sad2:

Not something Disney removed, but....

I am so sad Walt is gone. I have to believe that he wouldn't let greed (sorry, excessive profits) drive corporate decisions. I have a feeling if he were still around that the CMs would feel great about working there and the guests wouldn't feel nickel and dimed to death everywhere they turn. Yes, I miss him.

All the interesting authentic merchandise each country sold in their Epcot shops. I used to come home with a suitcase full of great stuff. Now there is never anything I want... It's all junk.

ITA. On the design and the unique shops. I also miss Flower alley.

Flower Alley! Yes, we always took photos of our children there - must have been for 7-8 trips, over as many years, then...no more. It just wasn't the same without them surrounded by all those beautiful flowers.

What I miss most? Me being there!

I miss the Spectromagic parade! I get so sad every time I think about never seeing it again. :sad2:

Considering that Walt died 5 years before Disney World even opened, that's an interesting statement.

Yes; he got it (WDW) started and established the basic plans, but I miss his attitude toward us, the guests. In the early years you could "feel" his presence at the parks, but slowly they have abandoned their roots.

We still go and love it, but not quite as much as we used to. I wish he could still be here.

He'd be dead now even if he hadn't died in 1966.

Another vote for a spontanious day at the parks. Planning rides weeks in advance and being stuck with a time specific schedule takes the fun out of the day. Not to mention kids get sick, park days change etc. Our last two vactions have been plaqued by a kid spiking a fever the afternoon we checked into our resort resulting in all kinds of messed up FP's and ADR's

Growing up in the area I have so many Disney memories of attractions and other things that have gone away or changed.
The train that used to go around Fort Wilderness
Back when the campround was calm and peacful before all the golf carts took over
Sara Lee cheesecakes at the MSB - we used to buy one at the end of the day and take it back to the trailer to eat for dessert that night
Eating salted almonds and drinking a "Mickey Mouse" (aka Shirley Temple) at The Top of the World at CR
The kids playground area back when DTD was The Village at LBV
Drinking cold lemonade at Aunt Polly's on TSI
$1.25 32oz sodas...back in the 15th Anniversary days...gosh I feel old now...

I've only been going since 2002, so I haven't missed a lot. Up until a week ago, the worst was when the Beaver Tail's pastry was removed from Canada at Epcot. It was sooooo good.

But now, for sure it's the removal of World Showcase Players. They exude the Magic that is Epcot. For them not to be there will indeed be a sad day.

I started going in 1972 so I've done just about everything but I really, really miss Alien Encounter. That was the best!
