What has Disney removed that makes you the saddest?

I remember when Main Street was like small town Main Street. Now there's a souvenir shop every few feet.

Sorry, you are incorrect. There is also a Starbucks. :lmao:

There were numerous things I missed between my last trip as a kid (1990ish) and my first trip with my family (2010).
  • Oh, kids! Wait 'til you ride the 20,000 Leagues submarine ride... whaddya mean it's gone?
  • Where's Horizons?
  • This isn't how I remembered Imagination!
  • That neutered backlot tour.

There is one removal that my wife won't let me live down and that's Snow White's Scary Adventure. It was 2010 and DD was 8 and it was the end of the night after a long MNSSHP and she had already been freaked out by the Haunted Mansion (just approaching the building, she did not want to go in).

We're walking past SWSA and the wife wanted to go in with her and I thought that it was too late and she was already pretty creeped out and I also remembered my little sister on the aforementioned 1990s trip FREAKING THE **** OUT on that ride. The Wicked Witch scared the bejeezus out of her and I didn't need to see a repeat of that scene. We could ride it the next time we came, maybe in the daytime, right?

Went back in 2012. Fairytale Hall, huh? Best laid plans and all that.

At least it's an(other) reason to go to DL at some point!

The authentic country-specific merchandise in the country stores in Epcot. They all sell popular garbage now.... So sad.

Yip, I definitely miss all the country specific stuff. It made WS what it was supposed to be: a walk through the world.

And if you're following any of my posts, you know my favorite now defunct attraction is the World Showcase Players. I'm still at a loss for words and filled with all sorts of anger and sadness that I'll never see them again. Here's there fan site if you'd liked to check it out: https://www.facebook.com/honoraryworldshowcaseplayers

Hoping the entertainment VP at Epcot gets canned sometime soon.

Mickey and Minnies houses.

The good merchandise at the Christmas store.:sad2:

I think I miss the classic things that were in MK like Mr. Toad, Snow White, Mickeys area with the cute little houses and coming across characters as you are strolling the park.

When I took the kids when they were young they got to really experience that magic. (except for Mr Toad).

Now it seems so rushed and pre-planned. I am all for planning but I don't want to plan out what ride I want to be on at a certain time.

I love to plan my vacations but I don't want to be a micro-planner.

TOTALLY agree! Especially when going with children... You spend HOURS online planning and then someone has a meltdown and you have to leave for naps and your plans and done... :(. Def. took some of the whimsy out of the trip!

Same with Minnie and Mickey's houses. The kids sat in Minnie's chair together when they 2 and 3 years old and the last time they were 12 and 13. Bummer we wont get that shot any longer!

We did the same with our children. It was the picture that we made sure to take every time. We have that picture from each holiday hanging in our dining room and it's a shame we won't be able to continue them. I was surprised to notice that the chair design changed several times too.

I miss Alien Encounter and Spectromagic.

Some of these have been mentioned, but maybe not all.

The extra snack and tip included with dining plan.

Skyway ride

4 nights and 3 nights free promotion, which at the same time I also remember a sale at DTD on toys, I think 25% off.

Pooh and Friends leaving Discovery Island area at AK, we have 8 trips of pictures there and now no more Pooh there.

Also I miss seeing Lilo and Stitch at AK.

Where if you got purchases sent back to your resort, they showed up in your room, you didn't have to go to package pickup at your resort to get them. I really miss this. It was like Christmas when you opened your resort door.

The all you can drink frozen coke at Pop Century. I really really really miss that.

So MANY things!

Top three - Adventurers Club, Tapestry of Dreams Parade, River Country.

That beach/water park that used to be at the Wilderness. I forget the name but had great times there as a child.

In all honesty I don't miss anything. Yes there were attractions that were removed (Penny Arcade, Magic Shop, River Country, Toads Wild Ride, 2000 Leagues Under the Sea, ect) that I have fond memories of, but life evolves and so does Disney.

Dare I admit that a generation gap truly exists? My children and grandchildren will have fond memories of other attractions that I may not...and that's OK.

This! :thumbsup2 Those of us who grew up with those attractions fondly remember them, but yes we must move on. New things are good too!!

I definitely miss Mr. Toad's Wild Ride quite a bit, but if I had to pick only one attraction I'd love to see back at WDW, it would have to be If You Had Wings.

It is what it is. You will never be able to stop change no matter how much you detest it. Every year WDW will be different somehow with some acts, rides, characters, and experiences gone. Often replaced with others that the old generation will hate while the new generation embraces.

My one regret and the one thing that makes me saddest is that I didn't take the time to appreciate Epcot for what it is last time and thus will have missed a few acts like Mo Rockin and Off Kilter. My fault for not slowing down and smelling the roses but I do wish I had done that. A combination of family and limiting myself to only one Epcot day resulted in my lack of being able to truly enjoy that park. Now I will not get to see those acts again.

My advice for what it's worth is that you just enjoy your time in the park and make the most of it. Then you won't feel you missed out on something when it's gone. I assure you everything you currently see at Disney World has the potential to be gone one day.

The things I miss the most are from decades ago, so I've been able to get over it.

But they are:

-- The "If You Had Wings" attraction at the Magic Kingdom sponsored by Eastern Airlines. The ride closed when Eastern went bankrupt. It was my favorite attraction and my brother's favorite attraction back in 1971.
-- Being able to do last minute table service anywhere Christmas week with just a 10 to 15 minute wait -- no Disney dining plan or free dining meaning walking up worked (This is what I still miss the most lol) -- loved no advanced planning and being able to eat anywhere, anytime spur of the moment. Now I usually stay offsite and only do one table service meal onsite per trip that I usually have to reserve five or six months in advance if I am traveling high season (say what??) and do counter service on park days. Don't want to have that much scheduling for meals.
-- Way back when, when the lake was considered swimmable by the MK monorail resorts -- could swim at the Poly, Contemporary, and Polynesian, and the River Country water park. Obviously if swimming is dangerous there is no way I would want to go in now. But the lake swimming option and old time water park were nice.

Those are the big three for me.

Does anyone know if there's a nostalgia dvd sold by Disney or even a 3rd party marketer that might feature some of the iconic attractions and rides from '70s-'90s like World of Energy, If You Had Wings, etc?

I remember many years ago I used to see VHS videotapes in WDW gifts shops that showed highlights from the parks - sort of a video souvenir. Be great to have something like that to reminisce. We have old VHS tapes we recorded from our own trips, but they're too old and faded at this point...and murky/dark, as consumer video cameras back then weren't really good at filming inside rides.

Legacy FP.

I haven't been going so very long that I remember rides like Mr. Toad, but I regret hearing lately about all the customer service that's seemingly going downhill. Tied to FP+/MB? Possibly. Either way, that's what I like best about Disney, and if that leaves completely, there will be no reason for me to travel that far for just regular rides and overpriced snacks. It's the feeling of happiness and friendliness that draws me back.

Have to disagree, I do not miss the Legacy FP, give me FP+ any day, racing over to Soarin' at RD only to find the earliest I can get is 4pm, so it's either forget it or get the FP and not get it anywhere else until the late afternoon even if I decide to park hop in the meantime and have to come back then or even get it for late morning then wander around until it is due, no thanks.
