what has been your worst dining experiance at disney...trying to avoid them :)

Someone's worst dining experience here may be someone else's best, you really can't judge a restaurant with any accuracy by what someone writes on a message board. Check the menus online; if they look good to you, try the restaurant yourself. In fact I have just recently had decent meals at Sci-Fi, San Angel Inn, Tutto Italia and Big River Grill, all of which have been mentioned in this thread as the worst ever. I won't hesitate to go back to any of them.

I do sort of agree about ABC Commissary but they had a huge crowd last weekend when I went in to get a cup of water - they must be doing something right.

What was wrong with it? We love San Angel and go every time. Most who do not like it often expect it to be similar to typical Americanized Mexican restaurants throughout the country. We don't want nor expect the typical Tacos, Enchiladas, Burritos, Chimichangas etc. Mexican food is sooo much more than the Americanized version of Sonoran style food!

I was one of those that said I would never return here. I don't expect it to be the typical Americanized Mexican food. However, I have been to Mexico and this is nothing like anything I ate in Mexico either. So if you're expecting authentic Mexican food, go to Mexico because San Angel Inn doesn't even come close to Americanized Mexican food nor does it come close to authentic Mexican food either!

For us our worst meal was Le Cellier. (we had a bad waitress, my food was cold/ bland.) we had heard nothing but fantastic things about it too.

Would I go back? no.. .but that doesnt mean that when you go your experience will be the same. If there is somewhere you want to try, go for it.... if it is that bad.. .lesson learned!

Now Chef Mickey is not my favorite place for the food, but I love the atomsphere and the fun my family has there. Most of our best meal times have been there! :) I will take a big huge smile on my kids faces anyday!

We had the very worst dining experience ever at the Brown Derby!! I was so looking forward to trying this venue but it did not live up to the hype. It was one of those "nothing went right" sort of meals.:confused3 We were 4 adults and 3 children (5,2 and infant) so maybe that had something to do with the lousy service. The tough, grissly steak are on the kitchen though---as was the stale grapefruit cake. For the money spent (OOP with a TIW discount) it just was a huge disappointment. I'd never spend another dime giving them another chance.

our worst dining experience was at the german restaurant. it wasn't that the place itself was bad, but i didn't enjoy the food. the entertainment wasn't bad though. but i definitely wouldn't go back

Mama Melrose!!

We just didn't care for the food! But there are people here that love it, so you should look at the menus/pictures, and go with what you think your family will like. We love Sci-Fi, and there are quite a few here that don't. It's all a matter of personal opinion!

Have a great time, no matter what you choose!!

I too have been to Mexico many many times, have family there as well. What so many consider Mexican is actually Sonoran style. Theres much more too it than that. I find San Angel to give a good mix. I do agree that Disney could not give true authentic food as it like the other countries would not go over well with a very mixed crowd. None the less they do a good job. Every meal I've had at San Angel has been excellent! However, in all honesty I do not find any of the WDW restaurants to be on par with whats available off site. They have to cater to the masses.

Le Cellers was my worsed experience. ADR messed up poor service food cold, etc. Never ever again. Terrible way to treat a solo guest.

I didn't care for:

Big River Grille at BW
Morocco's big restaurant - overpriced, small portions, bland
Tony's Town Square - bland and the calamari wasn't what I'm used to, but I like the ambience
Sci Fi Dine In

My husband and I are having our first in December. We just had this discussion of where we'd bring him when he's little while on vacation. WE are very ANTI-ruin-other-people's-dinner so the World Showcase for the most part is out for us though there is bound to be a screaming kid in each restaurant on our trips lol I just refuse to be THAT parent in a nice restaurant. To each their own. Here's the list we came up with:

Ohana - they have activities for kids and the food is awesome
Biergarten - Oompa Band can entertain kids and we liked the food
Living Seas at Epcot - giant fish tank view
Cape May Cafe
Crystal Palace
Liberty Tree Tavern
Tusker House Breakfast - AK - best character breakfast!
TRex
Captain's Table at Yacht Club (I think that's what it's called)

With kids, esp. with these menus, I'd avoid:

Le Cellier
Chefs de France
Bistro de Paris
Cali Grille
Narcoosee's
V&A's
Yachtsman Steakhouse

Too adult and nothing to keep them occupied. HTH!

If you wait long enough for everyone to answer you will not have any
restaurants to go to because there is always someone who didn't like it.

I would look over information about the different restaurants and if you like the menu and discription of the atmosphere, I would try it--
you never know you may have a wonderful experiance.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I didn't read through all of the responses, but I can tell you that every one will have a different opinion. One person's favorite is another person's least favorite.

Check out the menus on allears and see what appeals to you.

I have been going to Disney since 1984 and have never had a horrible dining experience. (And I've eaten at the majority of the restaurants!) Some are better than others, but nothing's been horrible!

I think you've noted that children can be found in all these restaurants.

Except Victoria & Alberts - children under age 10 are not permitted to dine there at all.

Our never agains are:
Chef Mickey
Liberty Tree Tavern
Biergarten
Marakesh

Our favourite meals were Le Cellier, O'hana, Raglan Road and Coral reef.
We are 2 adults and last year the kids were 13, 6 and 2.

coral reef and garden grill, if we have a bad meal we usually will give a place a second chance but not these two...

For me, I will probably not go back to 50's Prime Time Cafe or Crystal Palace.

At 50's PTC, I found the food to be blah, but I really did enjoy the atmosphere. So, awful dining experience? No. I just found the meat over-cooked and the service to be rather slow. But not enough to complain about.

At CP, I just found the dinner buffet to be blech. Worse than "blah". The meat was luke warm, and I found the buffet area to be dirty and messy. Almost (read: almost) to the point of questioning the safety of the food.

In general, though, I would go back if someone in my party wanted to. Nothing that would make me go "I will NEVER go back".

I agree that not only will people have different experiences because of personal preference and taste, but also the same people could have different experiences at the same restaurant on different trips!

I do want to point out that about a year ago there was a LONG thread about this topic (worst restaurant) and although probably nearly every restaurant made it on there at least once, someone tallied at the end of the thread and ABC Commissary was mentioned by like 37 different people! That was enough to convince me not to try that one!

But I'm also not a very picky person, but we've had good and bad points about many of the restaurants we went to. Unlike many others, we really like Garden Grill - and my last trip was just me and a teenage son. We actually really liked the food (unlike most others) at 1900 Park Fare, but thought the character interaction was just eh. We enjoyed Le Cellier - probably not worth the hype - but a good meal and good service, especially when it's still one credit on the dining plan. Loved the food at 'Ohana (dinner) but the service was just absolutely horrible - literally throwing food at us and shoving food on the table before we'd even gotten to eat what was already there and spilling drinks in the process (without much apology).

We LOVED Les Chefs and have that on the top of our list for next visit. Also enjoyed Whispering Canyon - good food, good service (but a bit too much of each). Thought the food was fine at Prime Time but probably wouldn't go back - just too "Denny's" for me! Have always had good experiences (other than the wait) at Crystal Palace (for both lunch and breakfast). We thought the food at Sci Fi was really good and the atmosphere is great, but the service hasn't been the best - I'd still do it if I had kids but now that mine are older I probably wouldn't go back.

So I guess my point is I didn't come up with anywhere where I said "Wow, I'd NEVER go back there - everything was horrible" but do think the food is better at some places or the service at others. Chefs de France I would say was the one I found with the best of both, but we've never tried a signature restaurant (working off the dining plan).

So I might avoid ABC Commissary, but you'll probably be safe with most others if you check the menu out beforehand and are sure there's something you'll eat there! :thumbsup2

For us, Planet Hollywood was the absolute worst meal on our trip. It was very loud. The tables are crammed together so tightly that we could hardly pull the chairs out even a few inches. The waiter was rude. The food was awful. It was very un-Disneylike. We won't be going back there.
