WHat has been your biggest splurge using your points?

We're CA residents and OKW owners, so I consider any points use at VGC a splurge because DL is usually a day's outing for us. We've stayed there twice, both times when we had points nearing expiration and no opportunity to get to WDW. The first time we stayed for 2 nights in a 2BR which worked out very well for 5 of us, with the 3 bathrooms. The second time I'd waitlisted a 2BR for 1 night for the DVC 25th anniversary bash at DCA. The waitlist came through, and when we checked in we were upgraded to a GV! I felt that the points for the 2BR was a splurge but the upgrade made it feel *so* much more splurgerific! We've had GVs at OKW several times and love them, but VGC is certainly kicked up a notch.
Now that the "kids" are all grown with work schedules to work around, our opportunities to travel together are less so when we can all get together I look forward to more splurges!

I haven't been to vero yet. I must do that combined with a WDW trip next time. I keep getting sucked into a cruise. I'm hoping to see turtles in Hawaii this summer.

We haven't done Vero yet either...but I just decided to bite the bullet and book a few nights there for August of this year. We are going to try to combine it with a WDW trip as well, so I'm thinking a few nights at WDW followed by 4 nights at Vero Beach.

Maybe we'll do Hawaii one day.

We did 4 nights in a VGC GV as a once-in-a-lifetime splurge. We invited all the family we had in the area plus a few friends to fill it. Only problem is that we loved it so much, we want to do that every time!
I need more friends like you:-)
This year for our family Christmas vacation will be 12 days in a 2 BR and will be using 582 points. Banked, current and some borrowed from 2018. We used about the same amount during our 2013 Christmas vacation also. Once your children start having children of their own, look out. Bye Bye points!
That trip sounds like it will make amazing memories!! I know all about the borrowing. I imagine when my DD has kids I will need more points:-)

Upgrade to GV:cloud9:. Now thats a way to make your splurge even better is right!!

Yes relaxing at Vero after WDW definitely sounds like the right plan.

In 2013 we did 5 nights in a 2 BR Savannah View then 2 nights at OKW with a 7 night E. Caribbean Cruise in between. In 2014 DH and I did a Concierge Studio at AKV after a PR cruise.

I've done two:
1. DCL eastern Caribbean cruise with my BFF.
2. A week at Aulani in 1br ocean view and gave my sis a bunch of points to supplement hers so she and her fam could go, too.
Used banked, current and borrowed pts for both of those splurges and worth every one!!

Our biggest splurge was a cruise. We bought in August of 2013 and were given our 2013 points which had to be banked by October for use in 2014 (since we knew we were not going to be using them in 2013, that is what we did). In 2014 we had to use the banked points or lose them so we used our 2013 and 2014 points and borrowed our 2015 points to get a cracka' lackin' room with a verandah. I think we might do that again next summer. We won't be able to use the rest of our 2017 points this year (we borrowed some for 2016) so we will have to bank them for next year and since we need to use them or lose them next year we will do the same thing and borrow 2019 points. I know people say that it's not a good value using points for a cruise but we could never afford a Disney cruise paying OOP. And besides, a value is a value if you feel it's a value.

No judgement here, cruise if you want to. But you might look into the new service that David's provides where they rent your points and book your cruise. It may be a better value.

Nice!! I love cruising in addition to WDW stays. Best of all worlds :-)

Can't wait for Aulani! Thats Very generous. I am an only childand I hear so many bad sibling stories....thats a great one:-)

Yes I agree.
I never considered using my points for anything other than my wdw stays or a cruise.
On a lark after reading these boards.....I did rent my points once for the purpose of paying for DCL. I wound up saving a years worth of points for zero risk. However value is always subjective.
My next DVC includes a 1BR OV at Aulani which I can assure you many may say has No value:-)

We usually only do value studios at AKL or standard studios, but we are going with the inlaws and our 3 boys next January. 2 bedroom villa at Kidani for 12 nights. 380 points. I hope it's worth it, this is the inlaws' once in a lifetime trip.

2 AKV Savanna View GrandVillas for 7 nights for my trip with my daughter, daughters in law, granddaughters, great granddaughter and yes my grandson Carson who was 6 at the time and didn't realize how out numbered he was. We had a total of 10 people spread between the two units. Five people in each GV. Everyone had her own bed. No sharing. It was the height of decadence! Each GV was 545 points since we went in September--for a total of 1095 points. Then I paid for the airfare for 10 people, I bought six people their tickets, I paid for most of the meals and drinks! That was the trip of a lifetime. I just wish the villas were cleaned before we got there, and that one of my daughters in laws could have acted like a human being, but that's another story! All in all it was a great trip and a good time was had by all!

If you get along with your inlaws it will be amazing. The kids will enjoy their grandparents. All can enjoy family time and hopefully some time alone with your spouse while inlaws spend quality time with the kids:-)

Now thats a splurge! Sounds like most appreciated it:-)
ours was going all out for Aulani!
I hear you. I am splurging for Aulani already. Besides 1BR OV I rented the exectutive Lanai for 2 days. Only Disney can have me spend more money just for enjoying simple ammenities (like lounging by the pool or beach in a chair which should be easily found for free):o
Thanks

One of the things I didn't enjoy at Aulani was the inability to sit down. All the chairs were taken by 8 in the morning. I do not think there was an option to prepay for a cabana, if that's what a Lanai is, but we sure would have jumped on the chance if offered!

Yes there is one Executive Lanai. It has 2 Casabellas, 2 more loungers and a table and chairs and umbrellas. It is right below Ama Ama. Ocean views. No TV or power source like the Cabanas though. They can be prebooked like the cabanas. You do not PrePay though. If you don't show up by 10am they cancel reservation.
After reading these boards knowing I will be there during peak summer, spending most of our time at Aulani. I decided to take the extra slurge for the Lanai.
Honestly would love to find another Dis'er to share the lanai with, we are only 4 people. I might just spread the magic with people we meet or some people trying to find a seat and show them some pixie dust:-)

I was able to book a 6 day, 5 night trip, in September, at AKV - Jambo House in a club level studio. Typically, I book on the cheap in September, so that I can book another trip in May. This trip will make me point poor, but it is a club level experience!

Bought a second contract and there were a bunch of points on it that were expiring so took the opportunity to book a two bedroom theme park view at Bay Lake Tower. Watched the castle from my bed all night until they shut the lights off....absolutely the best room ever!

We recently became DVC members at the Poly and had lots of points to use up so we grabbed a 2 night stay in a Bungalow....Pre-Cruise. I hope I don't spoil myself ;)
