What happens to reservations when selling?

I have heard that when you are selling your DVC points any reservations you may have would be cancelled, so its always best to sell your points after your last reservation is done. My questions are 1) Is this true and 2) would it also apply to any reservations I have made for someone else in their name.

Thanks!

Yes and yes.

I have heard it is true, and yes...it would apply to all ressies made with points from the contract you are selling.

Not exactly what I was hoping to hear, but thanks for the quick answer to my questions....

You could always put a clause in the contract that the closing date has to be after a certain date. That way if you have an upcoming trip, you could still do it.

If you are a member looking to sell, the one thing you could investigate would be a point transfer to another member. Depending on the number of points involved, you may have to sell them for less than $10 each to get rid of them quickly--the market isn't nearly as large as non-members looking to rent points. But that's one way to get rid of them quickly before selling.

I think that is why you will see some resales listed as 'can not close until xx/yy/zzzz'. I think the seller wants to get that last DVC trip in before selling.

tjkraz - So what your saying is that instead of making the reservation out of my account, if I transfer the points to another DVC member's account, any reservations they make with those same points are not going to be cancelled when I sell. Do I have that correct?

That's my understanding. Ownership of the points should change at the time of the transfer. Once the points are no longer associated with your contract, you should be able to sell as-is.
