What happens to borrowed points if.....

Would someone mind clarifying for me what happens to borrowed points if a trip is cancelled prior to the 31 day window?

We are considering borrowing points from our June 2004 use year for a January 2004 trip......if somehting should happen that we needed to cancel, would the resulting penalty be that we would need to use the points prior to the end of the 2003 use year(so May 2004), or are there further penalties?

I doubt we will need to cancel, but we/ve never borrowed before.....thanks for your help!

The borrowed points would have to be used by May 31, 2004.

As long as the reservation is cancelled 31 or more days prior, all points are returned to that Use Year to be used for a reservation or banked (subject to normal banking deadlines and restrictions).

If borrowed points were involved, they will not be returned to the year they came from and can't be banked- so they would need to be used by the end of the year into which they were banked.

Yes, they would have to be used BEFORE the June 2004 date, since they were borrowed from 2004 into 2003 use year. The only other penalty would be if you canceled less than 31 days out. Then the points would go into a holding account and could only be used in the last 60 days.
