What happens..room only and trip interruption???

What would happen if I have a room only ressie and after we get there, something happens at home and we have to leave early.........since we'll be paying for the room upfront when we check in, can we get a credit for the nights not used?
What about park tickets? If we don't have "no expirations" on them, and we have to cut the trip short, can we add "no expiration" before we leave?
Hoping that this won't happen, but need to know...just in case......

If you bought trip insurace from Disney (or another company) than you should get a full refund for the unused portion of your trip.
If you think an interruption might happen than I would recommend buying the insurance.

I know someone who recently had to end a trip early due to a death in the family. Disney allowed them to keep the remaining days left on their Park Hopper passes to use at another time (the tickets they had purchased would have expired in two weeks time). As far as any other expenses (cost of hotel room, airplane tickets, etc), they had purchased travel insurance which covered those expenses. They had also purchased the meal plan and were able to save the remaining meals from that to use on their next trip. I'm not sure if it was Disney or the Travel Insurance Company that took care of that. After talking with a Disney Representative, they did feel as though Disney would have helped them out, but the Dis Rep told them that they needed to go through their Travel Insurance Company first before they could do anything.

I was just there a few weeks ago. Decided to leave a day early and I got a full refund for the night I did not stay. I was on a room only reservation with no trip insurance. It was no problem at the front desk, I just had to tell them I was checking out by 11:00 am.
