Hi,
I have never been to a baby shower, but my friend has recently asked me and Dh to be godparents to their baby (due in a couple of weeks). I know that she went to a baby shower last year, and am thinking that it might be nice to do something for her.

The problem is that I've not got long to organise it (ie it would have to be in the next 10 days)... does anyone have any bright ideas for it. It would be an evening at my house, with a handful of friends. I guess people bring presents - but is it like a hen party (or secret santa) type thing where you put a limit on what people spend?

Any ideas would be really welcome.
Thanks so much

What a nice thought

I'm not sure on baby shower protocol - only been to one which was food, drinks and everyone bringing a small gift for Mum or baby.

An idea for a game would be to get everyone to bring a baby photo of themselves and then get everyone to figure out who is who.

Also, if the Mum-to-be didn't mind you could have a game guessing gender, DOB and weight of the baby.

Whadda you know, I was right :)

The bridal shower has its roots in the traditional bridal dowry. In some countries, the bridal dowry still exists and is a necessary prerequisite for any young lady to becoming married. In years gone by, if a young woman found herself without an adequate dowry and the basic necessities to start her own home, her sympathetic friends would "shower" her with enough gifts to enable her to set up housekeeping.
