I've been running a help wanted ad in all the local newspapers for 6 days now!! Looking for a secretary, and expierence prefered but not needed. It's a decent job, decent location, good hrs, good pay, ect, ect....

Anyhow, I have had 4 people apply-- that's all.

#1-- doesn't drive but if we could pick her up and drop her off she's interested.
#2-- Needs 8++ weeks vacation (pd please) because her DH travels a lot w/ work and she wants to be able to go
#3-- Applied-- but doesn't want to interview until she hears from other jobs she's interviewing for this week.
#4-- She called and I returned her call less than 24 hrs later and her phones disconnected, so we'll never know.

However, that's all. 4 whole people. If nobody else calls tomorrow-- I don't know what to do.

Hire Me! I need a new job!

But the commute would be a bit too much...could you pick me up? I'm only in South Florida...you could stop at Disney on your way! :earsgirl:

You need to relocate to my area. For every job that opens up, there are literally 100's of applicants.

Ahhhhhhhh...if you were in Virginia, I would be interested if the salary is right. What is "good pay" in your book? I'm curious because the pay STINKS here! Hard to believe I made more in FL! :faint:

The job is flexible w/ 2 situations:

1-- It can be 2 part time jobs. One would be a medical secretary job at 25-30 hrs per week at $15 hr. The other would be a medical billing job at $14,000 a yr. Doesn't sound like a lot. But you can make your own hours and the work can usually be done within 4 hrs a week. So you're breaking at $60-70 an hr.

2-- It can be combined into 1 job. Where you'll work 3 set hrs days and the rest can be anything you want (and you can change it week to week). The pay for this is $15-20 hr depending on expierence. We're willing to pay for a good medical biller.

This illustrates a good point, IMO. It's not necessarily that people can't find jobs, it may be that people can't find exactly what they want, where they want, at the pay they want.....you get the idea. I'm not saying people should move 3 states over for a secretarial job, but I do wonder how much some people are willing to do to find a job when they're unemployed. I live 2-3 hours from 3 major cities where people claim they can't find jobs. However, when we have a job posting for a salaried, professional position, we have a very difficult time getting applicants. Makes me have a difficult time feeling sympathy for the unemployed sometime....

I think that it depends a lot on where you're located and also what your experience is. I don't think that anyone would deny that IT people have had a rough time of it and there are other disciplines that have also suffered in some locations. After all, not everyone unemployed is suitable for every job opening. Just ask any HR person about that.

Personally, I would jump at a decent part-time job but I don't know the first thing about medical billing or medical anything for that matter so I wouldn't be qualified.

I think a lot of times people are deemed "overqualified" for a job by an HR department too, which works against them.

Case in point...if I were to get laid off from my job, and there were no other jobs available in my field, I would start to look to other fields for employment. I am college educated, but would be willing to do a job that did not require a college education if ti meant making some money and putting food on the table. I would look at it from the perspective of once I got into a company, I could look around, learn the ropes of the company, and when a position came up that I was more qualified for, I would apply for it. Many times, though, HR tells candidates they are "overqualified". I've often wondered why HR makes the determination of "ovrqualified" if the person knows what the job entails and is willing to accept that.

An HR person told me that they assume that overqualified persons are just killing time until they find jobs they are truly suited for. In other words, they are more likely to quit quickly.

The way things are nowadays, anyone is likely to quit or get laid off at any time!
