What Frugal Action Did You Take Today!?

Really tempted to pick up a tea when I went by the hospital caf today, but I didn't. Came home and made my own. :)

Good luck finding what you need and want!
Thanks! I did find everything except shredded cheese. Sargento cheese was on sale $3/2, plus I have $1/2 coupons which would make each bag $1 each. Anyway, they were completely wiped out of shredded cheese. So I got a raincheck. Hopefully they'll be restocked by Wed. At our local Kroger, the first Wed of the month is Senior Citizen Day...10% off. So, I'll buy all the staples I need for the month on Wednesday.

I returned a suit that I got from Ross Outlet. In the past, I would have waffled, and procastinated until it was too late to return it. Now I decided it wasn't right for me, got in the car, and returned it. Rented a $1.00 box movie instead of going out. :-)

Not terribly impressive but I didn't spend any money today. I stayed home and worked on the house. I've had a bad cold since Monday so the house was pretty much in shambles.

In my cleaning up efforts I found some great coupons to Kroger that had come in the mail so I put those up with my other coupons to use.

I found .75 :)

and most importantly I found a questionnaire that has to be filled out for DH and I to continue to have health care! :scared1: So I will get that to the right people on Monday.

I also put a bunch of stuff on Freecycle which helps declutter my life and therefore helps me to mentally declutter. When I'm in an environment of 'stuff' I tend to shop more and add to it. Clear environments make me calm and happy. :goodvibes

I've done that too. Now, if I don't wear something within two weeks, I return it. I've found that the things I use the most are the ones I start wearing right away.

I had a pair of black pants that were fading. I love the way the pants fit and feel, but their color was showing some age. Bought some Rit dye for under $2 at the store and dyed them yesterday. Now they are dry and look great. Not sure how long they will stay that way, but it did save me time and $$ now that I do not have to go shopping to buy another pair for a while. This is the first time I've done this. May try it on a few other things...black yoga pants, black t-shirts that have faded, etc.

Also, to save money, I shop at Aldi! You can get great products there and spend a lot less.

I learned this lesson when I was moving last year. Between me and the kids, I probably found 20 clothing items that still had tags. Some of them were Christmas and birthday gifts that I did not get around to returning, so I did not really lose anything, but the money could have been used for something we really could use.

Dh and I needed some new clothes & didn't want to spend a fortune.

So, instead of going to the Mall we went to our local Goodwill.

Most of the stuff we bought had the tags still on them and were from Target, Kohl's, NY & CO, GAP and Banana Republic! :cool1:

Most items were $3.50.

ETA - we are going to our UU church auction tonight, I know we are bidding on a beach house weekend with another couple. I see it as a tax write off mini vacation. I hope we get it within our budget!

I think only the amount you pay over the actual retail value would be deductible. Since you may get it for less than retail value, it may not be a deduction. I'm not a tax accountant, but that's how I understand it.

Still, it's nice to help a good cause and get a vacation out of it at the same time.

That's interesting. Here it's every Wednesday at Krogers but only 5% off. I still do most of my shopping there on Wednesday.

I did not buy the $4.00 bag of Oreo's, I came home and baked my own homemade choc. chips. I had all the ingredients on hand! Money saved and my cookies are the best!

I have some black pants that are fading too and I've been thinking about dying them instead of replacing them. Can you use the rit dye in an HE washer?:laundy:

i would most definitely NOT dye them in my HE machine. JMO.

I am making chicken pot pie for dinner out of chicken leftover from making stock and leftover rotisserie chicken instead of just tossing it. I am making homemade salsa with tomatos i froze last summer from the garden to freeze/can instead of paying $3 per jar --we go thru a lot of it!

:cool1::thumbsup2:banana: That's great!! I wish we had more of a selection of grocery stores!! I also wish we got coupons in our Sunday paper. We get zip, zero, nada!:headache: Ok, finished complaining!

This morning after work I really wanted to go to Starbucks or McDonalds for oatmeal for breakfast. I came home instead, had toast, went to la la land. Going back to work in a few, and we are having our potluck. I used to buy something pre made, almost every time. The past three potlucks I have cooked, instead!! Cheaper and tastes better!

I ate bread that was really dry. Should have chucked it but ate it anyways. Still good no serious side effects.

How exactly do you do this? In the sink? Bucket? I love black clothes, and some of my stuff has faded too. If I can dye them that would be great.

Chiming in again......today I washed my car myself. I usually take it to the touchless car wash ($6 is the cheapest wash there) and then spend another $2 vacuuming it. The car was FILTHY from winter weather and we have more rain (mud) ahead. So I washed it myself and DH had the oil changed yesterday and they vacuumed it as part of the service. I did wash down the inside as well and clean out any trash. Looks good :thumbsup2 and I found a bunch of change to add to my Disney fund LOL

I saved a bunch on groceries yesterday by using coupons and shopping the sale items. We won't need shampoo/men's shower gel/deodorant for about six months LOL and I got 1/2 of it FREE :) Toilettries can be a budget buster here so I was tickled. I did forget two items (juice boxes for DD's snack at school as she doesn't drink milk and an extra thing of milk for the boys cereal at home.) I started to go back and buy them but then decided it wouldn't kill DD to take a water bottle, it'll be healthier than CapriSun anyway and we will make it on the one thing of milk I did pick up. So that was $5 I saved.

Tonight we'll have a family movie night (DS7 loooves this) and stream a Netflix movie, eat popcorn and coke I already had on hand. One evening of fun for free :wizard:

I used an old pot and did this on the stove...there are directions inside the Rit box for alternative ways to do this. In addition to the dye, you need 1 cup of salt and a tablespoon of liquid detergent. You have to get the water pretty hot, so I wanted to use the stove and not my washing machine. After dying the pants, I did run them through the machine on cold two times for a good rinse. Good luck!! BTW...you can not do this on materials made of polyester.

Another way we saved some cash this weekend...was DIY home repairs. The spring on one of our garage doors broke. Instead of calling the repair man that would have cost us $200 or more, we went to our large home improvement store and bought a new spring and wire. This only cost us around $17. My husband, who is pretty handy, was able to fix the door in under 45 minutes. I wouldn't try this unless you like to fix things around the house. It did take some strength to pull the wire tight in order for the door to properly work. You can look at the other side of the garage door to see how to attach the wire and spring.
