What dream did you leave behind?

My dreams were always different than everyone else's. Most girls dream of become a wife and mom but I never had that dream. I always thought BIG! I wanted to run for office, or be a tv news anchor!

I don't think as "big" now, but I very content and happy working in research and living with my cats. I wouldnt change a thing, except I wish I had more money! LOL

I don't necessarily think of it as a "Dream" but I always imagined having 4 kids and living in a semi-rural setting.

I have one child which we decided is perfect for us, and I live in the city, which I love, and I work in a job/career I love while DH handles the home/house/family duties.. Not at all what I imagined many years ago but I wouldn't switch my life now to the life I "imagined" many years ago...

First, I wanted to work in NYC in the theatre putting stage make-up on actors. I was quickly discouraged from that by my high school guidance counselor. He said it was such a competitive field. Duh...but there ARE people doing it! Crush that dream. I ended up going to cosmetology school and later business school, both of which I didn't really want to do but stuck with it. Now that I'm in college, I'd really like to get into Geology! Earth Science has been my favorite class so far, and I'd love to do something in the field. But how compatable is it with single parenting. (Sigh!) So I'm not sure what I'll "settle" on yet. Thought Elem. Ed., but after reading threads here, I'm not so keen on it. Maybe boring Accounting or Business? I want something more exciting! Wish I could do what I actually WANT to do!

Funny this should come up now. I have always wanted to live someplace very different and WARM. I wanted to have my own business but also wanted a slower pace of life in a more community type setting. I live in the city and always have. I married, have a career I love as well as working on my Masters degree. I love my home and am very close to my family and WHAMMO, an opportunity came to move to a small town in Costa Rica. We will have our own fishing charter and I have an opportunity to continue my own career from there soooo we leave in 2 years (I have to finish my Masters and DH has to get his Captains license). Now I get to live my dream but leave my home and family who all live very close to me. I hope they will come and visit me often and I know I can always come and visit them.
